WOW what a deal!

Do bear in mind tho' that all that 17" screen does add quite a lot to weight/bulk AND consumes quite a bit more battery so IF portability/battery-life is important to you do think carefully.

Voted cold LOL you need your head tested find me cheaper and post it :?

Had this laptop since October, changed the ram 2x1gb,great laptop, lovely screen.
#6
I reckon that is a pretty good deal for a desktop replacement, add a gig of ram and voila you beauty!
Good price for an entry level 17"....its a hot vote here

Bought Missus Offshorebairn this one a few months ago when it was £399, and it is a beauty.

Not the top spec'd 17"er but it does her.
#8
It's the right price for the spec etc. Hard drive is a little on the small side.

It's only a desktop replacement if you're not into gaming. The graphics card which this has is awful.

Looking at the spec of the deal you have posted, and comparing it to this for 10% more (when you reduce warranty and the postage comes off), I think people could probably justifiably vote cold on the Acer without everyone laughing at them.

The Dell offers Core 2 Duo, Santa Rosa Chipset, larger hard drive, probably faster graphics and twice the memory. When it comes to Bang per Buck, I think the Dell might have the edge. However, the Tesco laptop is probably easier to get your hands on quickly.

I said cheaper ? maybe you should try to post a deal sometime

Hi

Don't forget quidco @ 3% - all you need now are some extra clubcard points :-D
#17
I have one of these, bought previously for £399

It's a cracking laptop, but definitely upgrade to 2gb ram or more. (easy to do in about 5 minutes).

I would however recommend an intel core2duo processor over this AMD one, so perhaps look at some of the other bargain laptops posted.

Its been on there for ages, my one is the 5720 which was at asda for same price except its alot faster.

I know you said cheaper, so sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. No personal slight meant. It appears we have differing ideas about what makes a hot deal.

I define a hot deal as something that represents outstanding value for money, not simply the lowest price. I would want a laptop to last at least 3 years. Hence the idea of saving £1 a month over that period but compromising on virtually every feature wouldn't appeal. When advising people on what to buy, its things like that I try to get them to consider.

However, if the lowest price is the only criteria, then this is probably the best deal around. I couldn't find a cheaper 17" laptop.

Are you familiar with the idea of PC games?

If so, I'm confused that you should struggle to understand why people might want to play games on a PC.
