where do you find these codes, are there any other codes for other laptops @ saveonlaptops?

Even at £369 which it is now showing as (without using the code), this is a bargain. The HM55 chipset supports up to 8GB ram and intel core i3, i5 and i7 processors, handy when people put theirs up for sale.

The codes are usually posted by others on this forum. Having the HM55 no-one can come here chanting their "old technology" mantra. It is only incompatible with Intel latest money spinning venture into the G2 socket processors (released this year). I expect they will continue to release chips for this G1 socket, but that's how they make us upgrade and take our money :(

Can u upgrade the processors in these laptop to the new i3,i5 etc yourself

Screen 17.3" (Acer CineCrystal, LED Backlit, 1600 x 900 Resolution) NICE!

Simon, as I was saying, you'd need to use the older G1 processors at present, although a G2 should fit so maybe a future firmware upgrade would permit those aswell.

I don't think Intel sells laptop processors separately though.

A 17.3" laptop with a chipset that will take a core i7 when needed, for just over £300.

Thought it would be hotter considering core 2 15" deals are for a similar price.

old technology
you really expect people to pay over 300quid on a basic machine so that they can (possibly) attempt an upgrade beyond most people?
one that relies on obtaining a 2nd hand part with probably no warranty from an old broken machine
no thanks

this laptop is ok for what it is but id never buy it on a potential maybe one day upgrade to a faster basic machine.

core i3 or this, I see the difference, a core 2 Duo may fare better than the P6100. IMO I'd want this for the RAM and screen. The core i3 / i5 / i7 upgrade is just insurance on the deal.

I'm an online poker player and just need something that I can play and surf online along with the perhaps occasional game (not the likes of Crysis, just a few of the older games I like).

I'd prefer a laptop rather than a PC but a big screen size is a must along with clarity of the screen. Upgrading is not important but I'd like 2+ years out of it and something that won't become sluggish when I have several tables open (anything up to 18) at the same time.

Does this fit the bill or any other suggestions?

GlentoranMark, this is the cheapest current 17" laptop, get it! It's super stylish, the keyboard surround is a sort of graphite/slate effect.

The P6100 is still 3Mb cache (like a core i3), only downside (IMHO) is lack of multithreading, meaning 2 cores instead of 4 threads.

Sorry Zaphod, (can't spell your surname...) Can this play HD .mkv files smoothly?
#17
I would assume so, given 900 lines of resolution you might be better with 720 HD though.

What I was saying earlier about G1 and G2. Just reread the wikipedia and they are now (or always were) calling them H1 and H2. Sorry, but the thing is there is only one core i3 (the 2120) which is incompatible with this laptop, that's how new it is!

Why would I assume so? Err, I don't watch much telly. Just google the graphics adaptor. The CPU could be worse, it could be 1MB(ish) cache Celeron.
