cheap for a 18.4" and it's not a bad make so have some heat, nice deal
#3
Nice! Been waiting for something like this!

18.4"? Holy crap, that's big. My laptop is 17" and definitely big enough. Good price for a good brand. Have some heat.

terrible specs for £420
and in my opinion, if I wanted a laptop I wouldn't get anything bigger than 15"

Good brand.....apart from when things go wrong.;)

Darn only if it was i3

crap spec. a low end i3 would run rings around it, so a 2.4ghz i3-370 would destroy it, and they can be found for the same price if not less.
just because its reduced doenst mean its good.

Cheap, and a huge display, but that screen resolution is a bit odd:

* 18.4in display.
* Resolution 1680 x 945 pixels.

This is more of a protbale desktop replacement for the home, you wont we able to chug this thing around with you as it's quite heavy (3.8kg's is a monster) due to the massive screen and the batteries wont last more than a typical film at heavy usage. I would say if you need to move the laptop from room to room to the garden, play some films via the hdmi to your large telly, surf the net and do some basic word then this is for you! it's not a gaming device at all, but I would say its moderately powerful with more than enough ram which is a boon.

his personal choice i guess, but i would love an 18.4 inch laptop, this is a great price, heated
#15
just that a laptop is supposed to be more portable I think, not some huge thing you drag along everywhere

bigger screen also lowers battery life and yeah, that resolution is very weird

thats the 16:9 aspect ratio version of a 1680x1050 screen :)
just like the netbooks changed fro 1024x600 to 1024x576

everythings goin true widescreen format now for better movie experiencs. no more odd 16:10 (which are better for surfing & other actual pc work)

but thats your opinion. alot of people prefer Desktop replacements (DTR) for working, surfing & movies. well mainly for movies (_;)

I took my 20.1" laptop to blackpool with me & my son watched cartoons on it & also played lego harry potter. That kept him occupied

This is a terribly old laptop.

I would recommend pretty much *any* Core i3 17" laptop over this - you'll get much better performance with the same screen resolution, give or take a few pixels.

It's not a bargain, it's old tat.

I would put up on a fight but King Kong died about 3 months ago. hence me on a journey for a replacement. But the max they go is 18.4" these days unfortunately :(

have you been modifying your laptop? thats some high spec.

I think its about time they remake some more 20"+ laptop as now they got led technology & can fit more powerful stuff like i7, ATi 5980, 2tb hdd & so & so :p

I'd definitely buy one

That's the biggest problem with Acer, I find, longevity.
If you were prepared to go the 2nd hand route, and you have patience, Fleabay could turn up a tasty 20.1" dragon for around 500 green sheets.
I just got my second one and it's mint condition and top spec for £540.
They won't be making any more 20+" screen lappies, as they were a commercial disaster for each manufacturer that made them. Too much of a niche product.

CJ

EDIT: Yes, I've upgraded the CPU, RAM, HDD and Writer. Original spec was still quality. T9300 (can be easily overclocked to 2.7GHz, 4GB RAM, 2 x 250GB HDD, BluRay reader/DVD Writer Combo)
