Yes, that's quite a heavy machine at 4.1 Kg but it is a great spec for the price!

Look out if you search the net for comparisons and reviews - there are at least 4 models of the 8920g!

This one has the full 1920x1080 screen for 1080 resolution Blu-ray playback.
There is a slightly cheaper model (about £25 less) called the 8920G-6A3G25Bn - but that only has a 1680 x 945 resolution screen as well as less RAM and disk!

Also, this is NOT the model with the TV tuner and remote control. That will cost you another £350: http://www.simplyacer.com/Acer_Aspire_8920G-934G50Bn_412003.html but you also get a faster processor and more disk with the more expensive one.

If you believe in buying warranties (personally I don't) there is a 3 year "collect and return" warranty for £50: http://www.simplyacer.com/Acer_Gold_3_Year_Collect__Return_Notebo_461404.html or a 3 year warranty plus accidental damage cover for £90: http://www.simplyacer.com/Acer_Platinum_3_Year_Collect__Return_Wa_461405.html

I forgot to mention - free next day delivery to mainland UK on this as well!

What I liked most is the fact that the screen is full 1080 resolution for bluray and it has a true widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio so no black bars when watching 16:9 movies!

Some photos on a review here: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39029450,49296205-1,00.htm
Note - that review is for the more expensive model with the faster processor, TV and remote control - this one:

Hot deal im very tempted

I have the 6920g and I reckon it's one of the best looking laptops on the market. Hot deal.
#5
Hmm, it's more desktop replacement than portable laptop but at that price you get a very good spec. I doubt the battery lasts long though.
#6
The battery lasts 2.5 hours according to Acer

the make acer puts me off.....

but a hot deal, Think it needs a better graphics card to get my purchase
not so fussed about getting 18.4'' over 17'' must be massive :-p

very nice laptop

I have the Acer Aspire 8930G which is almost identical in spec. Super machine. The full-HD and blu-ray look amazing, superb sound too. Very quick to boot up and I have had no problems so far (1 month of constant everyday use), not even little niggles. Yes, it's big but got a cheapo bag for it from ebuyer for when I do need to travel with it. If you are worried about buying the Acer brand don't be - just invest in an extended warranty - I got a 3yr warranty inc accidental damage for £70 ish. hth

Shame they skimped on the CPU, not a bad deal though still.

Find 2.5 hours hard to beleive if that's on 'high performance' don't think mine would get that on my 5920G

with my acer aspire i take the battery out and run it on the mains when indoors most of the time.
not using the battery like this will extend its life quite far especially when left on idle to downlod movies or whatever

i think it will be possible on this one too

I have just bought the P8400cpu with GF9600, 7200rpm version. The rest of the spec is the same. Cost me another £230 for that option so hope it's worth it for the extra speed and goodies. Should be arriving in the morning.

This seems a really good deal. I am about to order. But...I was wondering whether it's worth taking out the 3-year warranty. The last laptop I bought came with that included. Is £50 reasonable for 3 years?
#14
Anything less than 10% of the original cost is a very good price for a warranty.

I should probably think about doing this as mine spends 95% of its time on mains..

Nice laptop - does anyone know if it has two hard disk caddies? I have a dell one at the moment that does (17") and would not want one without this now...
#18

#19
This still looks like a good deal. I'm tempted.
#20
yer think i going for one, has anyone tried one out?

Can anyone who has bought this confirm that this does indeed have 1920 x 1080 and not 1680 x 945?

Just bought one of the 8930G models advertised as 1920 x 1080 and it only does 1680 x 945 :( so it is going back!
