There's this Acer on for £549 at Simply Acer.

It's the same 8930G with a better CPU & faster memory but with a slower graphics card and a smaller HDD. In depends what you want to use the machine for. My lappy has a T6600 and an Nvidia 9600M. It plays most games. The Nvidia 9700M is a higher clocked version of the 9600M.

Do you mean you could pawn it? You definitely wouldn't get £600 for it. it's a good spec, but again, this machine is very old. not voting either way

Which I guess is why its not posted as "hot deal on one of the latest laptops". Yes, its an older machice but this is still a great deal for a good specc'd machine. So core2duo is a little old - its still perfectly fine for your typical user, out to get a bargain.

The machine seems to have looads of space, a decent amount of RAM, Windows 7 (via upgrade), Blu-Ray and Bluetooth, full HD display and loads of media and connectivity supported. Stick all of that together with one of the better i3s or an i5 and you'd be closer to £800-900 I reckon.

Saving £200-£300 seems like a good deal to me (but then I'm someone that doesn't insist on having to have the absolute latest thing when, in everyday use, the difference is hardly noticeable anyway)

Each to their own I guess.

Seems ok - pretty good deal too I think , but no blu-ray, res not as good - and in my opinion the i3-330M is not much better than the Core2Duo above. Its one of the budget Intel chips (and doesn't include the "turbo boost" function of the i5s or i7s) so you'd probably not even notice the difference. I didn't...

Thanks for the reply. I'll have a look to see if there is anything else available but these two are on my shortlist.
