It won't appeal to anyone but it will definitely make a few of us tick. This is one of the most eagerly awaited laptops of the year... Only £899.99 at Play, but you will be able to shave around £50 off the price with Quidco and the likes. Review here... http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/181407/acer-aspire-8920g.html

The stunning Acer Aspire 8920G with new Gemstone Blue design flashes an air of refined style with these eye-catching features:

The starlit backlight shines below the floating Acer logo, the focal point of the iridescent midnight sapphire sub-layer, which sparkles with varying gradations of black and blue when viewed from different angles.

The Enlightener power button flashes to life with a sharp-looking line of bright blue light when the notebook is turned on.

The intricate texture of the NeoWeave palm rest signifies excellent taste and exacting technical prowess, while providing a comfortable area for placing your hands.

So thats why the acer gemstone laptop with hd dvd in it has dropped in price quite a bit lately. Still this laptop/ notebook costs a little bit more than I'm willing to pay.

Here's some extra features from a press release:

Blue is a naturally cool, calming and universal colour. It is often associated with intelligence, stability, unity and control. The blue light that runs across the new Gemstone series instantly distinguishes the new product identity and illuminates its many elements of style:

the Holographic 3D cover radiates true elegance. The starlit backlight shines below the floating Acer logo, positioned in the center of a sparkling blue sub-layer

Acer CineDash media console
a touch-sensitive interface that gives you a new way to manage entertainment and launch Acer Arcade in seconds, as well as navigate menus, adjust volume and control your media on the fly.
The two notebook series integrate the second generation Dolby Home Theater technology with powerful audio technologies – CineSurround, Tuba CineBass booster, and True5.1 output – that set a new standard for the notebook sound capability

Acer Tuba CineBass
World’s first, unique tube-type bass booster design

Larger subwoofer capacity with tube design for smooth sound wave flow to get best resonance performance

DiamondBlack eKey
A shining legacy of the original gemstone design, the DiamondBlack eKey flaunts the classic appeal of precious stones and forms the gateway to a world of empowering technologies

The intricate texture of the NeoWeave palm rest is both refined and rugged, providing a comfortable, ergonomic area for your hands.

The Enlightener media flow shows how high definition entertainment was built right into the Aspire Gemstone Blue, tracing a path between the power button and the world-class digital sound of the Dolby certified Tuba bass in one uninterrupted path of pure entertainment. Simple, direct. Pure enlightenment.

yes. a bloody big one

Be warned, Acer customer services is ******. Nothing against the machines themselves, they're usually built and specced well for the money - just their repairs center is truely awful. So, not advised as a business usage machine.

Great "laptop", just need the assistance of a crane if you plan on using this anywhere other than your desk.

Hot for having so much and still being "portable"!

The bodybuilding line to lug that beast around with you.

Not sure whether to wait for this or buy a different acer which comes with a hd dvd drive instead. Yes I know hd dvd is dead.

Come on ladettes, the laptop is only 4.17kg, that's just above 9 pounds, hardly flab breaking... Plus you would probably want to put it on a flat surface to use it anyway or the weight of the screen would make it topple.
#35
For those of you who think this one may be too big to lug about there is also this option with a 16" screen and newer Penryn processor and for the same price and spec.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1GHz
Memory: 4GB (2x2GB)GB
HD Capacity: 320GB
Display: 16.0" HD WXGA CineCrystal
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS 512MB
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium

Networking: Ethernet Gigabit LAN, Wireless N WLAN, Bluetooth 2.0

Well since it costs more than I'm willing to pay I'll just get the depreciated hd dvd laptop for £600.

My brother has the acer with the HD-DVD driver and it has conked out on him (in 3 months!!!) and won't play any HD-DVD's, he has tried to get them to fix but they just keep telling him to do the same thing over and over and aren;t much help.

If you don;t need the HD-DVD drive then I would go for the same model without you should be able to pick it up for about £50 less I think.

Not sure where you are buying from but acerdirect.co.uk will try and price match if you find cheaper elsewhere...might be worth a punt.
#39
lol 4kg thats nothing my monitor is like 30kg on its own.
#40
Unfortunately the trade off for the lower price is also a smaller hard drive.
