do you get teh VAT off too? (just seen a banner flash across their site but hasnt come back round since!)
#2
Can anybody tell me what wattage the power supply is on this pc?
#3
Is this a good pc for the price?
#4
anyone? is this a good pc or are there better to be had for the price?.
#5
The information on the processor is disconcertingly vague.
#6
well i imagine you are looking at

£100 processor
£30 ram
£10 Keyboard + mouse
£40 gfx
£80 Windows Vista Home Premium OEM
£5 card reader
£35 HDD
£40 case and PSU

= £340 ish if you were to build it yourself.. very very rough estimate.

so i would say that its not a bad PC at all for the price!
and i would be guessing the CPU specs are:

Phenom X4 9550 2.2GHz, 2MB L3 Cache, 2MB L2 Cache

Yes you do. The £279.63 is after the VAT discount and the £13.00 discount & collecting from a store.

Steve.

Lets see....

CPU: £90 as its OEM
Ram: 2gb= ~ £20
Hard drive: ~ £35
Motherboard: probably around £30
Gfx card: ~ £30
PSU: ~£30
Case: ~£20
O/S(Vista): ~£60
Total: £310

In short, yes its good. Although i wouldnt say this is a good gaming desktop, GPU sucks as its a media type so get a bluray drive for the pc which is about £50 and if gaming youd probably need to overclock the CPU a bit to get good solid FPS at low resolutions. Good PC overall though so voted hot!.

what are the upgrade possibilities,

I severely doubt x16 pci-e slot for better gfx card. Dont get this pc if your a gamer.
#10
I have the Acer M3600 and its a cracker. Very fast and very quiet.

This is even faster than my Acer. Cant answer about how quiet but if its like my one then yes its a good deal.

I got rid of all the trial software and used my own AV FW and spyware protection.

Great price. Add to that a 22inch TFT for about £120 ish and its still just under £400. Voted hot

I bet it has a x16 pci-e slot since the card is pci-e according to retail so it should.

how easy is it to replace a graphic card in a desktop like this
#16
very easy, but please be weary of static etc, make sure you earth yourself out first or wear a anti static wrist strap  simple plug and play,

How will the Windows Vista be provided? I'd want Linux on it so have absolutely no use for Vista. Will it be a version I can sell on or will it be locked to this machine?

thanks

not likely, it will be an OEM version, so you wont be able to sell it on i would imagine.
#20
Cool pc, not too expensive either.

What exactly are you on about? :? The motherboard in this pc has a x16 PCI-E slot . Any current gfx card will work in this pc.

very easy but space on most Acer desktops is limited - i have an Acer, though very old now...still using an amd 3200, with a nvidia geforce 6800 agp card, yes agp! - fine for the net and office stuff which is what i mainly use it for....but may change it soon...prob a dell standard xps (the big xps are a joke!!) or equivelant hp (and bin the deadful keyboard!!)

I've done it a bit of Googling, and it appears that as long as it wasn't a branded disc (like the Dell ones) then it should be okay to sell.

It's obviously going to add to the price of the machine, so if I don't want it I feel I should have a right to sell it.

Anyway, hot deal, I'll look in to this murky legal area before purchasing though.

everything is much of a muchness nowadays.

if they are AMD or Intel they will do the job.
Intel lead the way at the moment but you get pretty much what it says on the tin and if you need more info then what it says on the tin then you probably already know what to be looking for :P
#27
You'll struggle to get a pc with an intel quadcore in for £280.

For a non gaming only pc this is a deal, it will play games although not very well for those that came out this year.

LMAO you'd struggle to just get the CPU for that :)

A word of warning about the O/S disc. My Acer aspire (about 2yrs old now) didn't come with an Windows disc at all. It was pre-loaded onto the system, and on first start-up was promted to create backup discs. This was with Windows XP, don't know if it would be the same with Vista...
#31
Generally they all come that way now with one or two exceptions and some companies will supply a disc on demand.

I would go out on a limb and guess that you know perfectly well that it doesn't add to the price of the machine at all. However, I do like the crafty way you put in an anti-Microsoft post without simply sounding like a Linux fanboy or someone who would use "M$" in their posts
#33
There's something "Fishy" with this .... according to Acer's specs, the Phenom model comes with ATI Radeon HD 3200 and AMD 780G chipset. see here

Tesco's are showing NVIDIA 9500GS 512MB on board graphics, so I'm wobdering if this is the Phenom or whether Tesco's have the wrong spec info listed.

Most other places on-line want £400 plus for the Phenom model, so I wonder if this is a Sempron or Athlon model ???
#34
Googling around for this would imply the mobo is crossfire with support for two cards in SLi mode in which case, a bargain!!
#35
Hi - first post so be gentle please!

I went into Tesco this lunchtime. They had the higher spec M5201 (4GB, 640GB, Phenom 9550 x4) for £499 and the M3201 for £279.63. However the spec on the ticket and the sticker on the unit itself said that the processor was an 8450 x3 (triple, not quad) and the disk was 640GB (not 320GB as per tesco direct link). Could the website have the wrong spec. against the machine or is it possible that Tesco has 2 M3201 models with different specs and the same price?

I suppose if they put the wrong spec on the site, you might be able to claim compensation of some sort. Just curious if anyone has ordered and checked what actually is inside.

Cheers :santa:
#36
Does this have a tv card or will I need to buy separately?
#37
I am very tempted. Been looking at a custom build and struggling to get the same specs for less
#38
Even the spec above states two PCI Express slots and the Phenom option at the acer site states the AMD crossifre mobo....very tempted but only if this is true. Don't want a triple core really.
#39
Im sure that if you get it and it isnt as described on the site you can return it as they will in effect be misselling the product
#40
Isn't this the same PC:
https://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/Computing/Desktop+PCs/PCs+for+your+Living+Room/Acer/Aspire+M3201/423915

Apart from the obvious price difference, it looks like it got AMD Phenom X4 9150e and ATI Radeon HD 3200?
