Looks HOT.

Does it have HDMI ?
#7
There is no HDMI slot built in to this PC.

There is room for 2 DVD/CD roms in the case.

The one you mentioned is definitely more powerful. However, you will be ending up with game which is more money, more powerful.

so AMD over Intel ? They seem to be similar in spec on the surface (havent gone through in detail yet). Well, given the advertised spec is accurate ofcourse :whistling:

So for general use, converting/editing videos, burning discs, etc etc the one advertiesed cheaper is the better of the two as I wont be playing games on it?

Does anyone know if this would take a core 2 duo processor?

Is it the same socket as the dual core?

The Acer website talks about these systems with Dual-Core/C2D and Quad chips so you can assume (but not be certain) it will take most of these. Whether it will take the latest (E8xxx etc.) chips tho depends on the BIOS etc.

This is always a problem with 'off the shelf' PCs from companies like ACER or even Dell - you don't always get the information/support for the mobo/bios you would from a 3rd-party mobo maker...

You COULD file a ticket with acer.co.uk and see if they reply tho :)

That has a more powerful CPU and a dedicated graphics card meaning it would play more games/encode video faster etc. etc.

The linked PC also supports upto 8Gb of RAM (according to the Acer site) - this only supports a max of 4Gb which makes it a BIT less futureproof.

The linked PC also has Vista Home Premium - this is Vista Home Basic which lacks some things (like DVD Burning?)

Day-to-day use web-browsing, writing letters etc. - you'd never notice the differences perhaps

If you can afford the linked one it's better value but this is still an OK PC for the cash.

Paid £241.70 for the following Acer base unit from Comet in Kidderminster yesterday:

Core 2 Duo E4700 2.6GHz processor with 2MB L2 cache
2 GB RAM
320GB SATA HDD
Nvidia GeForce 9300GE dedicated graphics with 256MB VRAM
Multi DVD-RW
Card Reader
8 USB 2.0 ports
Windows Vista Home Premium
Wired keyboard & mouse

Unbelievable value for money! In-store only, haven't listed it as they've only got a few left at undetermined stores around the country.

I think this is good value, with a decent processor that would set you back £107 on it's own - very similar to the base unit I bought from Comet (listed above), with an extra gig of RAM and a bigger HDD.

Only thing that would concern me is the VGA output (although it will probably have DVI as well) and 'tbc' against the graphics card; make sure you check the spec of card that's fitted before you commit yourself!
