Not the highest spec ever. but a bargain all the same!

Great deal for the hard drive model
#3
If you're looking for an Acer Aspire One I'd wait, they were given a price drop in America (with the 6 cell version coming in at the old prices), so hopefully the price drops will make their way over here soon
#4
It is a good deal and very tempting.

Kind thanks to those who have sent me rep for this deal. Just to say that I am not the finder of this deal so it would be great if you could give any rep to RISC.

Agree, however this is a fairly good drop in price (equivalent to the $50 that is quoted drop ) so I am not sure if it will be much lower than this. However as the single 6 cell battery is so expensive (£60 or so), I think anyone wanting one with a 6 cell battery is better to wait as it will likely be cheaper than buying the battery seperately

I don't think the description is correct, the title lists AOA110-AW, which is the 8GB model according to dabs.com, AOA150-AW should be the 120GB model.
#7
this looks good! anyone know if it is possible to installvista or xp? also is it possible and how much to add more ram?
#8
Hot! A bit tempting lol
Hope to gather more useful information b4 buying :p

Hi,

Believe that you are correct. This does sound like the 8Gb solid-state version as opposed to 120Gb hard disk drive version. This machine is available from PCWorld (8Gb) for the same price and there's a 5% discount code posted on HUKD.

Never the less voted hot.

Not available before 8th September.

Also as the previous posters note, the serial number is that of the SSD model, although the specs list the 120GB drive.

IF you bought it, and it came with the SSD, you would be entitled to send it back - of course - but it would be a hassle.

Overall this smacks of Comet getting on the NetBook bandwagon, without knowing what's really going on.

Hi,

Believe that you are correct. This does sound like the 8Gb version. Comet are claiming that there's no web-cam in their specification list as well which is unusual. This machine is available from PCWorld (8Gb) for the same price and there's a 5% discount code posted on HUKD.

The one on PC world at £200 isn't the same model, it's the AB rather than the AW. I think the difference is a flash drive vs a HDD. The AW is £229.99, so you could get PC world to price match for an extra £3 off.

This is probably the best thing to do as that way you will get the 120gb model even if the spec on Comet is wrong (as pcworld will just use the internet to check)

AB/AW identifies the colour of the laptops blue or white,

If it is the 120GB version then it's def. a hot deal. I bought one which was delivered 3 days ago from Dabs for close to £230 and it is pretty cute. Linux is a pain in the **** though! I'll probably end up sticking XP on it.

The £199.99 offering from PCWorld (prior to 5% discount) is exactly the same specification. The only difference between the two 8Gb machines is that the one on offer from PCWorld is Sapphire Blue (and no doubt looks really nice). The Acer Aspire One from Comet posted here is almost certainly the 8Gb SSD as opposed to 120Gb hard disk drive version.

Edited the error regarding no web-cam from Comet as well (apologies for the typo).
#17
Surely though if you bought this and they sent you the 8gb model you could complain and have them send out a 120gb model? Use a screenshot as evidence?

Showing as a tick for the webcam for me, as in a webcam is included in the spec.

hmm the wikipedia page is interesting
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspire_One#United_Kingdom

It infers there are no UK models that have 512mb combined with a 120gb hdd.
#19
Does this have a spare slot to add more RAM? 512MB is pretty low, even for a netbook.

You can add more memory to an Acer Aspire One but it is quite difficult involving pulling apart much of the computer.

Dabs and Acerdirect have the 512mb 120gb version

512mb is enough for Linux, off course it would need more if you wanted XP to run smoothly.

the one for sale at comet is listed as a AOA110, if it had the hard drive surely it would be the A150 like the ones on DABS and ACERDIRECT!!??

That is the confusion but effectively Comet have to give you the 120gb version or a refund as it would be there mistake.

There will be a webcam, this is not an option and is supplied with all models.

For those waiting for the Acer Aspire One price cuts that were announced, well it seems that they are US only.

I just spoke to Comet thru the online support contact and they advised there was a misprint on the web site and it is only 8GB.

They do not stock the 120GB model, so if one was to make a song and dace after purchasing this machine they would only get a refund.

- No chance of Vista successfully running on this, I'd stick to XP. This offer is good but if you only use genuine software then expect to pay £60+ for XP home so basically this is like a £260 laptop and for that you could get a lot better.

Is this better than the asus eee they have at toys r us for £179, that also has a flash 8gb

Thanks,

Hmmmm....

Bit of a strange one this. ParcelForce delivered order today, 15th Sept (unsigned for and left unattended).

Anyway, the product received seems to be the 8Gb version which is at a guess what most on here expected, however, the Comet sticker that has been placed on top of the manufacturers specification on the side of the box say's A/AOA110 N270-512M-120-8.9"-Linux S8 suggesting that even though customer services say that the product on their system is an 8Gb SSD version the warehouse must think that they had 120Gb Hard Disk Drive versions in stock.

Anyone have any idea what my rights are if any?

A copy of the product page that clearly listed a 120Gb Hard Disk Drive has been saved both in .html and PDF format and e-mailed across to customer services however, at a guess, Comet are more than likely going to argue that a mistake was made and insist on a refund rather than supplying the correct product.

Notice that Comet are now selling the correct product (with 1Gb as opposed to 512Mb) for 249.99.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Comet have said that their delivery team are calling back however offered no apology for the fact that the parcel had been left unsigned for and unattended, crushed and supplied an incorrect model.

Thank you :)
