Is this site legit - anyone bought from them before?

Why do they want to know your date of birth when you sign up??
#5
I see the 15% back is in vouchers for the site and not cash back..

Has anyone used these people before...seem to be saying they are really new !
#6
Is this a reputable company, anyone used them before?
Cheers,
Rob.
#7
Ive not heard of this site before but guess it's ok as its on Quidco and takes credit cards ?
#8
Not used them before today, but they're big in Europe under a few brand names. Google them. Quidco is always positive!

mumbojumbo
The VAT is £22.56, so isn't it £174.98 delivered with a £22.56 voucher to come (effectively £152.42)?

No

£172.99 / 100 = £1.7299 (1%)
£1.7299 * 15 = £25.94

£172.99 - £25.94 = £147.05

£147.05 + £1.99P&P = £149.04
#10
Shame the VAT refund is to your account, rather than your card.

Looks like an interesting site to keep an eye on in the future
#11
mumbojumbo
No, that's 15% off the total and not the VAT :p

But that is the point - it's 15% off the TOTAL (which is equivalent to a VAT refund):

"For the duration of the Cdiscount launch party we're offering you the opportunity to shop VAT free!

To say thank you for shopping with us and helping to celebrate our launch we will refund 15% of your total spend"

Agreed, and based on a lot of their prices I'm happy with account credit - bring on the January sales :)

I'm tempted to order from them but still nervous for some reason!!

Understandable since they're relatively new, but it all seems ship-shape to me, and Quidco must have verified more than a few things too.

Cheers lads! Everybody noticed there's other Netbooks on the go on the website in question including the Samsung NC10? If that's going at the same discount option that would cost £255.00p based upon a discount of 15% VAT (£44.99p) from the total of £299.99p (excluding delivery)...am I right or am I wrong? :whistling:

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Been watching this new company for a wee while now. Really not convinced they are making much of an effort to attract my custom. Promise of some cash back next year is not a great deal. The prices on their website are not competitive enough to make me think about placing an order. Most of the items I have looked at can be bought cheaper, now, in dear old blighty.
#19
mumbojumbo
The cost of the item excluding VAT is 100/115 x £172.99 = £150.43
The VAT is 0.15 x £150.43 = £22.56
Total cost = Price excl VAT + VAT = £150.43 + £22.56 = £172.99

HTH :p

You might be happy to help but you're still wrong. The 15% refund is based on the TOTAL price including the VAT paid as part of the transaction.

15% of £172.99 is £25.95 and that's what is refunded.

You are right! Remember though, it's credit to the account, not actual discount or cashback.

That is not the case I'm afraid - they say they will give a 15% discount based on the total - but do not state whether the total they are referring to is inclusive or exclusive of VAT. Also further down on the page they do say 'your account will be credited with vouchers to refund the value of the VAT of your purchase.'. The value of the VAT on the purchase in question is £22.56. That is the value you will receive in credit come January.

For clarification you will not receive 15% of £172.99 (the total inclusive of VAT), you will not receive £25.95. You will recieve 15% of £150.43 (the Ex-VAT total), giving you £22.56.

Well spotted, thanks for noting that - price updated in the title. More quidco then! :-D

Er... Doesn't this imply some form of "voucher" credit... not cash?
#25
cdiscount is a french discount hi tech site which sells almost everything.
I know very well the store for a while as I am french and mind the fact that they are the worse that you can expect from an online based store : delays for delivery, poor customer service, sometimes never delivered, weeks to battle to get back your money...
I've ordered only twice there and never came back to them.
#26
if you pay £300 over 3 months then after 1st month when you pay , they credit your account so you should pay £45 less next two payments? am i right?

Voted COLD.

Totally misleading OP.( although not deliberately done, I hasten to add ).

You DO NOT get a refund as the OP claims....they will credit your account with a figure which no-one seems to know just yet?

A discount or refund imho means I get the price discounted to its bottom line or I get the CASH into MY bank account....not theirs!

The fact they put it into their/your on-line account means you have no other option than to spend it with them rather than have your own choice of where to spend your cash.

If you think £172.99 - less whatever you get from Quidco is a good price...then go for it....not for me though......

Upgrading RAM
Currently, all available models of the Acer Aspire (regardless of colour, HDD/SSD, 512Mb/1Gb RAM) have 512Mb hard-soldered on to the motherboard with only one available DDR2 SO-DIMM slot. There is a limit of 1Gb in that slot and so that means you can only have a maximum of 1.5Gb of total RAM. With the 1Gb Aspires, there is already a 512MB stick present in the slot and so you would waste a 512Mb stick in order to replace it with 1Gb one.

Add more disk space with SSD models
The SSD drive present in all Aspire Ones are 1.8inch IDE form factor and so can ony be upgraded with another SSD or normal HDD of the 1.8inch variety. The more common size is the 2.5inch and this will NOT physically fit inside the case of the Aspire One.

Add more disk space with HDD models
In the HDD models, the drive in use is a standard 2.5inch SATA type, much like those used in modern day notebooks and even the PS3. The underside of the casing on these models is different in that there is a *very* slight bulge in order to accomodate the slightly larger form factor. You can replace the drive with another 2.5inch SATA HDD drive of larger capacity or go for an aftermarket SSD if you want to spend as much (or more) on that than you did on the Aspire one itself :-D

How easy is it to do any of the above?
Not very. There are no easy to access compartments underneath the Aspire One to upgrade either the RAM or the HDD/SSD. If you want an idea of how far you need to go to do anything inside the Aspire One then have a quick scroll through this...

http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=2673

The other method of adding more disk space
The Aspire One has two Secure-Digital slots, one on the left hand side and one on the right. The one on the left can be used to expand the storage already present on the Aspire One, regardless of whether it's the SSD or the HDD model. Insert an SD card into that slot and the available space will be combined with what's already available. Eg your SSD is down to 4Gb free and you added a 16Gb empty SDHC card. Your total available space then jumps up to 20Gb! I haven't actually used this feature myself yet so I can't say for sure how the OS decided where the files should go first, fill up the SSD/HDD first and then overflow to the SDHC or some kind of mix.

Cheaper at Comet if you buy vouchers using your virgin credit card - and not to mention a more well known brand rather than this company who i've never heard of.

That sounds interesting, a lot more intersting than arguing over a few pounds vat refund in vouchers?
How do you buy vouchers using your virgin credit card?

If we all stopped shopping after we bought this laptop from them then your way of
thinking would be correct. But as we all still carry on shopping there is always
room to use that saved money on some other bargain from that site.

You are telling me that if play.com offered a great laptop for £200 with vouchers
for the vat ie £30 back to spend with them - then you could not find
something to buy from Play for £30 when another bargain appears ??

stick your money in the bank mate and shout baaaa humbug !!

Acer redefines mobile connectivity with Aspire one, the revolutionary netbook packed with fun and powerful computing features in a diminutive 8.9" form factor.

From the moment you switch it on, the Aspire one is ready to go in just 15 seconds. That's what Acer calls a smart start. Once on, the interface is pure simplicity - a home screen divided into four areas that contain all the applications you need to stay connected, work, play, and organize your life on the road. And as your Aspire one is as unique as the way you use it, you can customize the applications on the home screen so that it's just right for you. Fast, simple and indescribably chic. That's your new life with the Aspire one.
