The prices of these seem rather up and down at the moment, I think this is a good deal.

What do they mean by 95% of keyboard? Can someone also comment whether its worth buying this or a pocket pc?

This is a good machine, much better than a pocket pc. In the future, you can upgrade to XP.
Linux is very capable though!

Just had one of these delivered yesterday from Amazon.

For £10.62 more ! :x

I`m sure it`s been mentioned on here before that there`s away to get a refund on the difference but i can`t seem to see it on their site. Can anyone help ??

BTW heat and rep added.

Cheers.

I think they stopped that refund thing at the end of September :(

The keyboard on the netbook is meant to be 95% the size of a normal keyboard of a laptop - personally never used them but do hear very mixed stories about them in general.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

This is a great unit for this price, lots of storage. As supplied with Linux, it works fine for "normal" tasks, (surfing, documents etc), but I changed mine to XP cos I wanted things like Slingbox and other programs to work easily. (much can be done with Linux but it is a painful learning curve).
Buy a cheap external USB CD drive from e-bay and you have a great system which is very portable and has WiFi and camera built in. You can get a USB Bluetooth dongle for low price off e-bay if you badly need Blutooth, a Google search will even tell you how to fix it inside unit if you are feeling brave and willing to open it !!. Lots of support from internet sites for this unit which is nice.
This is the cheapest of these devices with decent (120GB) storeage and 1GB RAM and is as good as my expensive laptop for what I want to do.
:)

Absolute bargain price for this! Finally bought it, watch the price go to £175 by next week lol

will play dvds no sweat. Also has enough oomph to play 720p MKV, and will just about play a 1080p without dropping too many frames (depends on bitrate mind). These are great units!

This is how I usually do it:

Get your order number from the recent order history and the price you paid
Get the new price and item number
Give them a call on: 0800 2796620
Let them know the price has dropped and you want the difference refunded, and they will do the rest =)

These are great for general office work and internet on the move. Plus I find the battery life is at least double what my normal laptop gets. Well worth the money

Yes it can be done quite easily - there's a actually a forum out there for people who use the Acer Aspire One Netbook and it has quite a lot of helpful guides there to give you an idea. I've listed the internet link to the website below for you, if you fancy having a read - note there are a number of good guides present for supporting Windows XP/Vista.

This is the first time I've seen this specific model go down to such a low price - only other ones that come close to the technical specifications would be those equipped with smaller PCI-E SSD storage or the lower-end (but still a good runner) Asus EEE PC 904HD, which is equipped with a Celeron CPU but with an 80GB hard disk.

Prior to this there have been forum posts for refurbished Advent 4211 Netbooks this week as well, which were from Dixons & could be purchased with a discount code to drop it down to £189.99p, but they have 10" screens, 1GB of memory & 80GB hard disk....it will probably be next year before you see them come down in price again.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Seems a good deal. Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but if you buy an external dvd drive can you play games on these things? only I have an 8 year old PC that I am thinking of replacing but I dont want to spend too much (cos I only use it for e-mail, internet ,photos & the odd game of C&C:Generals). I am looking for something very small and this seems ideal and looks to be higher spec at 1GB Ram/120Gb HD than my PC (which is 512mb RAM- yes that is upgraded to the maximum possible! & 40Gb HD) Any comments would be appreciated!

Recieved mine yesterday.. paid £215 for it on thursday so sent Amazon an e-mail yesterday when i noticed the price drop. Within a couple of hours had e-mail back from them saying they would refund the difference. Done this a few times lately with Amazon after buying from them and they've always refunded the difference - quality service!!

Yep, external DVD drive (via USB) will work.

Not sure if C&C Generals will work though, but if it worked OK on an 8 year old PC then chances are it will.
#34
It will play on it but GAMES on a tiny screen....I think you ought to by a magnifying glass or one of them light things they had for the nintendo years ago...Stick to a full size for games!!!

Anyone got any idea how this compares with this medion http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/58_8207.htm

Apart from obviously the screen size, hdd space and price, anyone know if the battery/processor is better?

The CPU will be the same (the 1.6Ghz Atom) but not sure about the battery as the link is not working for me via my work's internet access.

PS - Forgot to mention you'll have the Windows XP Home Edition OS on the Medion Netbook, whilst the Acer Netbook will come with a Linux OS Distribution, which has been customised for this laptop.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Confirmed on other post that the CPU is the same - the battery according to the technical specifications on the Amazon UK website are listed as being a "3 Cell (3 Hours Battery Life)". I can't access the Aldi UK website but if you can and the battery is larger than the aforementioned "3 Cell", then in theory it should have a longer battery runtime.

Of course this is all highly dependent on what operating system your running, what applications your running on it but also the power saving configurations used on it as well - hope that helps you out a bit.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!
