Many might regard this as a positive :whistling:

I have one, and because it has Linux it takes about 30 seconds from switching it on to being online wirelessly.
#6
can u not remove linix and put on windows? or not enough space?
#7
Damit.... I was holding off for the Samsung but this is half the price! Decsions... decision. Can I ask anyone who has one of these what the TRUE battery life is. Trusted reviews spec says 3.5hr, Tesco says 3hr but I read reviews saying as low as 2hr.

8GB is more than enough for XP. You also use WinXP Lite to trim the fat off the install. Couple of issues I've read though. Must be installed using SP2 or above otherwise the dreaded BSOD appears during install (will be a SATA driver issue).

Ordered! UKHD thanks for helping me spend my money.......again!
I have used nLite to put XP on an 4GB Eee PC and it has been fine so far (2 weeks) and boots up in about 45 seconds. Doing it using a USB pen is a bit harder but there seem to be lots of tuts online.

I can't see any info on the £10 voucher - is that nationwide?

I have heard that the 8gb ssd is too slow for xp, though as I don't have the acer I can't confirm this.
#18
Just bought the hard drive version a few days ago. . . I would say that battery life is about 2.5 hours, but possibly more on the 8gb SSD version.
This netbook has a really sweet feature. . It has 2 card readers, one either side. . the right hand one is a multi card reader as normal, the left hand side one, if you put an SD card in, it adds it to the hard drive size. so if you put a 8gb SDHC card in, it treats it as part of the SSD and will show you having a 16gb SSD.

I just installed XP from a Kingston USB drive no problem. . . youtube has videos that explain in detail, its not that hard. . I have bought a 1gb Stick of RAM from play.com for £10.45 delivered, and am just about to install it. . .

*** UPDATE *** Just installed a 1gb SODIMM and now have 1.5gb . . . sweet. Took about 30 mins

Seems ok to me (1GB version below):

I've not heard anything about that personally. I know the write speed is slower though.

Anyone know the max ram you can put in these and how many slots (1 or 2). I am aware the warrenty is void if you open these :) Same as most of the Netbooks

Edit: Doesnt matter, found it.

Is anyone else finding Tesco's website tediously slow, especially when trying to view basket ?

Possible Quidco as well?

Not sure if it would be 3% for other sales or 7% for entertainment.

EDIT: entertainment is only DVDs and things, looks like 3%.

Amazing price, pity it's the white one though, I'd say the blue looks better.

Sapphire blue looks great out of the box but after a few weeks use it starts to look a bit shabby, it marks very easily + the painted area left and right of the touch pad is rather poorly finished particularly in the blue. IMO

Cheers, that's good to know. :)

Might go for the white one then. I've only ever seen the blue one as a demonstration model instore, noticed it was a bit marked but figured it was the handling by people testing it.

Anyone know if the Quidco £5 first time tesco order would also work with this? It does say it's for grocery's. ;-)

I`ll have to agree that it marks easily, but ive got a white one abd have used it loads and doesnt really worry me. Also if you have a Mcdonalds near you you can get online there for free and its really easy to do. Thats something i wouldnt do with a full sized laptop.

Looking at this it appears you may have to do some tinkering, assuming the 'huawei e160g' it refers to is the same (I would think it will be, both being 3 modems).

There's a good guide about halfway down the page on how to get it working. (8th post down).

Basically it seems it wont work out the box, but the solution is a software one, so you don't have to go flashing new firmware onto the modem or anything.

Nice one. How easy is it to upgrade the ram and how much does the ram cost?

I was thinking of getting 1GB ram version but that's like £20 extra.

if its an sata driver issue, or any driver issue for that matter, most decent chip manu`s supply pre install drivers which can be loaded before install in xp
