High-speed wireless broadband on the move!

If you want a laptop that you can easily take on your travels, or just a 2nd laptop for when the kids are hogging the family PC, the ACER ASPIRE ONE AOA110 is worthy of serious consideration. Now with inbuilt 3G connectivity you can connect to the web anywhere and eliminate the need for a dongle or USB stick!

At only 985g this lightweight model is sure to make you wonder how you ever managed to lug a standard laptop around.

The powerful Intel Atom processor gives you fantastic performance in an incredibly small package. Also, the 16GB Hard Drive means that this model has storage capacity to rival many of its larger competitors.

With the added bonus of a CrystalEye webcam you can easily keep in touch with loved ones absolutely free.

If it's an ultra-portable laptop you need without compromising on performance, you can't go wrong with the Aspire one AOA110-AGb .

Acer redefines mobile connectivity with Aspire one, the revolutionary netbook packed with fun and powerful computing features in a diminutive 8.9" form factor.

SmartStart in just 15 seconds
From the moment you switch it on, the Aspire one is ready to go in just 15 seconds (with Linpus Linux Lite version). That's what we call a smart start. Once on, the interface is pure simplicity: a home screen divided into four areas that contain all the applications you need to stay connected, work, play, and organize your life on the road. And as your Aspire one is as unique as the way you use it, you can customize the applications on the home screen so that it's just right for you. Fast, simple and indescribably chic. That¿s your new life with the Aspire one.

Vision: One idea
How big is perfection? How small is ideal?
The Aspire one has an 8.9" CrystalBrite LED backlit LCD with 1024x600 resolution and an integrated CrystalEye webcam that offers just the right balance between easy-toread clarity and easy-to-use functionality. You could almost call it the perfect fit.

Power: One energy
Power comes in many forms. Often the smallest is the most powerful. The Aspire one comes with the Intel Atom processor, built with the world's smallest transistors and designed specifically for low power consumption while delivering the power and performance you need for full online freedom.

Style: One look
Your style is your signature. It is your identity, your personality your calling card. Your style tells the world who you are and how you live your life, both online and off. It is all you need to be yourself. Your style comes in different colours, each with its own individual character. So does the Aspire one.

Feeling: One freedom
Smaller than an average diary and weighing less than 1 kilo (models with NAND flash module), the Aspire one puts freedom in the palm of your hands. Freedom to use WiFi, WiMAX and 3G Networks to explore new ways to connect, communicate and interact with the world you care about. Freedom to go beyond ultra-mobility. Freedom to be yourself anywhere you want to.

This comes with a builtin 3G modem so you don't have to have one hanging off the side.

It does not come with a sim card, you have to bring your own one whether it's PAYG mobile broadband or contract mobile broadband. You continue topping up or continuing the monthly contract with them to keep the mobile broadband access going, not Acer, not Play, not anyone else, just the company the mobile broadband sim card is from!

I rated this cold as for £30 more you can get the compaq with Windows XP Home and a 60GB HDD and a 10.2" LED screen so in my opinion it's not a great deal

That's not really comparing like for like though is it?
This is a mobile device (as it has integrated 3G) not a netbook for use at home, 2 totally different requirements.

The SSD is also a benefit for a mobile device,.
+ the Acer has a higher resolution screen.

The Acer is a great deal. Voted hot.
#4
I think people are voting this cold as they don't realise that it has mobile broadband built in!
#5
Is there an annual, monthly or usage based 3G charge?
#7

Jeez some people are idiots! That is NOT the same model so cannot be compared like for like for reasons already mentioned above...
#8
Mate got one of these solid state ones, I had bought the Asda one earlier in the year.

I installed WinXP on both and the solid state one runs like a DOG. The Asda one with the 160G HDD worked like a treat (until the keyboard went faulty and I had to return it):x

the only advantage of urs is the 3gb modem. 3g modem is about £10.
3g dongle £16.99 http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/9223948/3-Mobile-USB-E156G-Pre-Pay-Broadband-Dongle/Product.html?P36=EXEVFR there were cheaper o2 dongles such as this http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/409160/o2-mobile-broadband-pay-and-go-was-/ but they are now expired

Good price with built in 3g no naff external dongel.

Just got a dell mini 9 with wwan not to down as seems a well built machine.
#13
Can't understand why this isn't hotter. The 3G functionality is a clincher for me and one I've been looking out for for a long time. Big rep to OP!

Does the 3g mean that you do not need a dongle like the huawei I use?

Is there a sim card slot in the laptap?

If this is the case then that would be brillaint as I have to carry around my dongle and if sometimes it is left at home then no internet for me :x

thanks

Aye.

Lol @ laptap. Sounds like Roy Castle in a strip club. Of course I'm not condoning jokes about the late trumpeteer, but that's how it is.

Great price for this.

XP will run very slowly on the SSD version if installed from CD, though there's a cut down version (XPLite) floating around the web thats optimised for the Aspire One and can be installed from a USB stick. Not perfect (it has the occasional pause for a few seconds whilst writing to the SSD) but fine for surfing, office apps, divx playback etc.
#17
I'm tempted to grab one of these to go alongside my launch day Acer Aspire One that does not have builtin 3G

These have now been reduced a bit further from £169.99 to just £159.99 delivered :)
#19
With the 3G this is a good deal. Still trying to find one with a good battery life at this sort of cost though :(

Seems like a great deal to me the SSD may not be the fastest but it what exactly do you need 120 GB of storage for on a netbook?
Given the size of the screen the most you are going to be doing is surfing and watching the occasional film.
Also you can add extra storage via the SDD slots.

Plus SSD is less likely to break than a conventional Hard Drive as there are no moving parts.

Consider turning off restore and indexing ( I have pagefile off on a 1.5gb AA1 get no errors)

6 ZFLASHPOINT - was very nice cache software ( works great in a gig ram) please see http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=406948 still available from torrents legitimately ( i believe ) but do virus scan it

I cannot be bothered playing with Steadystate , dunno if it is relevant/advantageous

SSDs are actually a covert security device - they forces you to be spartan with your data and keep elsewhere

Voted cold, as Play.com are not covered by UK consumer law, and as such are not obliged to give a 1-year warranty with electronic goods. I would not buy anything more pricey than a dvd from them.

I got the Dell Mini 9 for £167. I added a 8 GB Verbatim Micro Flash Drive from Play.com for £14.99. On this drive I run portable apps which I update with my big laptop. Also I have a Asda SIM (Vodafone) for 3G just for collecting my email. I use WiFi most of the time in the pub or coffee shop. I removed most of the Dell software.

Also IMHO Acer after sales service is crap.

They are covered by EU consumer law though. They legally have to offer a one year warranty and this warranty is Europe-Wide.

I've heard similar reports. Apparently the SSDs they used at launch were very, very slow (as in considerably worse than a mechanical drive). Since then they've swapped to a slightly faster Intel SSD (about the same speed as the mechanical HDD that ships in some AAO models) and an even faster Samsung drive (roughly the same speed as the one found in the Mini 9).

I changed my mind about these, it's a gamble as to which one you get. If i got the 1st gen Intel drive i'd wind up having to replace it making this a lot less of a bargain.

noob question guys so forgive me!

Ive got an O2 Sim in my mobile with an unlimited Web Bolt-on if I buy this can I just whack the Sim into the Laptop when I want to surf?

Thanks

These wee Acers are great for the money - particularly if you wipe the linux and install XP or Windows 7.

This one with 3G built in is pretty good value for £159.

If you already have an Aspire One and are useful with a soldering iron there's plenty of mods to check out on the aspire forum, including one to add internal 3g. Check it out here http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=5974

I got one of the 8gb models in Tesco a few months back for 99 quid and following the tutorials on the Aspire forum I've been able to add a 320Gb hard drive, upgrade the Ram to 1.5Gb, add internal bluetooth and 3G and overclock it to 2Ghz! My total spend including the Acer is less than £150 :)

Some of these mods won't be for everyone but if you have an Aspire One and some soldering skills then check it out

Would probably agree with that. My laptop needs to be sent back to Acer (hinge has cracked) phoned them a few weeks ago and waiting for them to get back to me with returns details...

Need to phone them again before the warranty runs out!

For those who have slow ssd performance you need a little piece of free software installed on you acer which dramatically improves performance called "Flashpoint" .........did it on mine a while back and hand on heart have only good things to say about how fast my 8gb ssd is with either XP or Windows 7.

see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnTl5FvVJu0 for info & download details.

(btw. I think the 16GB SSD is much faster than a the 8GB SSD anyway)

I brought a dell mini 9 a while back, and have been humming about getting a WWAN dell mini 9.

This appears like a better deal, as has a 3G card in, and 16gb ssd.

Brought one at 7pm.

Just been looking at the tech manual, NOOOOO it has a fan.....

I love my mini 9 as it is whisper quite with no moving parts...
I may regret this purchase...
P.S. The blue looks sexy.

I think the fan is always on and noticeable (though that's going from what i remember reading). There is a software mod for this that switches the fan off so that it only spins up if the unit gets hot resulting in a machine that's as silent as a Dell for 90% of it's life.
