I wish these could take a 2.5" hdd
#2
Not sure if it is instore only. Bloke told me he didn't have many left.
#3
Yeh its instore only. Its been mentioned in the other thread.
#4
They have these in Watford
#5
???????
#6
Hot if you can get one - you could steal one for less than thus!
#7
Is this a good spec for linux?
#8
If you know how, You can put tiny xp on it, I have just done it and my machine zips along just fine. I only have 512 ram also and I feel no need to upgrade. Add a 16 gb memory and with the 8 which is a full 8 after you put tiny xp on it, ( well close 7 and a bit). download VLC, upgrade firefox 3, Totally love my machine now. did have Linux for a year and it was fine but a pain in the **** for doing simple tasks like changing wallpaper. steal at this price
#9
:( Just ordered one of these 3 days ago for £149 from play.com. Typical lol.

stick another gig of ram in this for £11.49 from here http://crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=487BC38AA5CA7304 and put windows 7 on it and you have a cracking little machine.

Windows 7.100 RC1 now "available"

I'd pay the extra £30 and get this one

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/386677/acer-aspire-one-a150-atom-1-6ghz-ne/

I think it worth it for the extra hard disk, let alone double the memory

Both HOT though!

loads in cheltenham store. (althouigh no on display).
8gb ssd £99 and the 120gb hdd £129. bargains .
#15
SSD will run fast but the 8GB limits alot IMO. It'll end up costing more than just paying extra to get a 1GB ram with a 120/160GB hdd

When I phoned to check stock the girl said there was 1 of each and I was faced with the decision dilemma on the spot lol asked her to reserve the £99 as its for my mum (she keeps stealing my laptop to go on the net) and figured she has no need for all the hard disk space so the faster, less battery consuming SSD was the better option. Depending on the performance I may go for the extra 1gig of RAM and will also look into putting on Windows 7
#17
remember if you upgrade the ram you void your warranty, my screen busted, the liquid inside, send it back free and got a new one. I also got a new 1 year warranty, so will not be messing with upgrade ram, but no need as Tiny XP zips along great, loads up and boots down fast also.

Mobo is 1gb max I think?

Max memory is 1.5gig so you can add a 1gig SODIMM.

Mind you, upgrading the RAM in this machine is a nightmare. You pretty much have to totally dismantle it. That's not so bad but the build quality means it can be 'fun' to put back together again......

Its def 1.5gb max

Dabs are selling the refurb at £142, quite a difference!

The SSD in this machine is notorious for being atrociously slow; slower even than its mechanical counterpart in the A150. It reads/writes at only 4200RPM whereas the 120GB HDD is 5400.

I'd pay the extra money and get it with the gig of RAM and 120gig HDD, unless cash really is tight or you specifically want the one with SSD (which is a slow SSD).

It is a bit hilarious the amount of work involved but its do-able
#27
Have been trying all day for one of these but completely sold out in my area - great if you can get it though.

the SSD will use less battery but the HDD will give you more space, depends if space is an issue for you.

+1  + 30£... no brainer !

Thing is the A150 is impossible to get hold of :( - at £99, worth a punt on the A110, purely because you just have to be jammy to get the A150 anywhere.

I'm in Radlett and getting giddy - which Tesco do you mean? High Street in Watford or the Extra at the retail park just outside town? Cheers!

Wow - good price. Hot.

Alloa is my local store too...... hmmmmm I dont need another of these I dont think :w00t:
#39
so this may be a dim question,
if i manage to get hold of one of these, how do I go about loading xp on it?
#40
Went for the A150 this morning at Hermiston Gait, Edinburgh, but they were all gone. Managed to get one of these instead.

HDD capacity isn't really an issue for me, because it'll just be used for occasional browsing and the extra battery life is a bonus.

Seems fast enough with the current RAM.
