That's 2 weeks in a row they've knocked a couple of quid of this. :)

Still can't justify it. :-(

Looks like alot for the money but I would rather get the one without windows as I would only use this as a media centre with XBMC Live so paying the extra would be a waste for me but voted hot for people who would use it for more than just a media centre.

Yeah, because they know that if they do then someone will post a new deal for it on here and everyone will make it hot and they'll make lots of sales. Ebuyer are essentially exploiting the forum and the bandwagon jumping members.

It was a very good deal when it was posted last week as well and a 1.6% price reduction doesn't make it worth reposting.

Why? It's a reduction.

excuse my ignorance, is there anywhere i can read up on how the advantages of a media centre...right now i connect my laptop to my tv to watch films, would this make it easier..wireless? as such...

i heard alot of people reccomend this acer machine over apple tv/wd media players etc

thanks

I want one - simply for xbmc. They should just do them pre installed with linux / xbmc with a remote lowest spec that runs it properly and they would sell more than they could make.

SO whats the best deal for a barebones to run xbmc then ? I dont need any size of HDD really as everything would be stramed from my pc....
#12
Its £190 without windows 7, a smaller HDD and with only 2gigs of ram from ebuyer, so £75 for 2gigs of ram and Windows 7 is probably a good deal if you want windows 7 on it. If you don't want Windows 7 then it isn't :)

Whether it's worth putting windows 7 on it is another thing though. Personally I have XP SP3 running on my single core revo and find that more than adequate.
#13
the same model but with a 320gb hd drive is £250 on simplyacer

Personally I am going to get one of these

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/156186

and one of these

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-002-ZT

I already have a 1.5TB HDD and some ram lying around.

Now this can be a NAS + my downloading machine and my media playing machine.

Can't wait to get this.

Got this system with the 2gb and 250gb hard drive, had it linked up to the 32" LCD with HDMI cable, picture quality is very good and system runs extremely quite.
Very nice little space saving PC.

Coming from a different angle but if you only want one to run XBMC live, streaming content from your PC, get one of these with factory fitted cooler (so it's completely silent). Amazing value and feature set including the ability to play DVD ISO's via network share so you get all the menu's etc. (very useful for rips of TV Episode Disc's)

Just go for this one guys:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/613479/ebuyer-acer-the-aspirerevo-r3600-wi

It is half of the price and it does exactly the same job (will run XBMC with ease)

With only 1Gb ram as opposed to 4Gb ram - how do you work that out?

Or did you mean just for XBMC?

Ha, yes, that is what I mean thanks (can't multi-task)
Anyway, I've got two of them in different rooms of the house and they're awesome

From my experience the R3600 works just fine for XMBC with Win7 on it.

Yeah, I mean just for XBMC.

Ive the 2gb version of this running XBMC streaming HD material via network plugs to my HD tele.

After years of half ass measures ( stand alone divx players / XBOX for divx etc ) this runs everything I throw at it ( x.264 format ) without an issue.

If anyone is thinking about a home theatre system, I can tell you you wont be disappointed by this. There may be other options available ( there always are ) but this is a good little bit of kit.

One difference is that this one has optical out and yours doesn't. That might be important for some people.

Hi

Am almost too embarrassed to ask this  but..... If I were to get this little beauty would I be able to run XMBC (Live?), my SqueezeCentre, and run it as a NAS at the same time???

I looked at this combination but I don't think the itx board has spdif on it. Also, I don't think I will be buying any more products from overclockers, I have just been banned from their forums because I dared to make a comment about their review system (97% of 1 star reviews are rejected) they immediately deleted my post and then banned me when I asked why it had been deleted (deleted the second post as well).

I know, apparently all the 1 star reviews are full of gramatical errors and rude words.

I would go for that one if it only had the optical out to connect to my AV system. My AV system is a bit older and doesn't have a HDMI port so wouldn't get digital sound quality.

If your TV has an optical out, it will carry down the HDMI cable from the Revo, through the TV and into your amp.

can anyone tell me what advantage i would gain apart from fact of getting a small pc, over the popcorn hour? im finding its interface slow and would like something which plays all formats but does it with a nice interface like th XBMC.

What else would i need to get this working? i have a lan cable at my tv as popcorn is wired in.

Most Tv's only output Stereo, so you lose the 5.1

I know, most optical 'outs' on tv only output stereo and not 5.1, google it!

ain't that the truth these can only go in one direction and that is dwon in price when the ion2 is released at the end of Mrch.

I too will be waiting for the dual core /wireless keyboard/ windows 7 models to be around the £230-£240 mark before I buy one.
#39
S/PDIF is a "must have" for me. so i too will wait till a better offer comes up.
even then may just stay with the PS3 for my movie playback needs

I recommend that case.

I've personally used several of these to build Atom boxes in both domestic and enterprise environments, and while they're not going to win any design awards, they're sturdy and get the job done nicely.

I would say that you'll be waiting indefinately for the Zotac Mobo at the OCUK price, because they're discontinued now AFAIK. I would also add that unless you're really specifically building a media-centre use only type of box, you stump up the few extra quid to get a Dual Core CPU. The thing I like about Atom's is that if you go DC to begin with, and you change your mind about the usage of the box at any stage, there's all sorts of other things you can do with them and having DC just gives that extra bit of adaptability for various levels of functionality and therefore makes the kit you build a little bit more likely to retain some of its cost of building if you came to resell it.

I know for example that if I decide to upgrade all my Atom systems (and I have a few) to ION2, or to a new gen Atom CPU based offering, I can wipe my current boxes and load them up with any number of software solutions to either turn them into resaleable home computers, or 'appliance' type boxes.

I just ordered the eBuyer Revo R3600 deal so that I can turn it into a dirt cheap Trixbox appliance. I'm effectively rebuilding all my SOHO hardware requirements with Atom based gear, as and when I can afford it, so as to cut energy usage by 60%.

There's a rather spiffing Chenbro MiniITX NAS computer case with 5 HotSwappable drive bays which will make a perfect Dual Core Atom based NAS box one day, but the cases never seem to come down in price... very 'spensive, but all told still a bit more flexible than a dedicated 5 bay NAS box.

My final non-leisure Atom project will be to build a Jetway based DualCore Atom firewall/NAT box to run pfSense with four dedicated ethernet ports, and that will rid my office of all the nasty big 24/7 PC power-sucking boxes, thus reducing electricity costs, heat, noise and saving huuuuuuge amounts of space by comparison.

I love Atom!
