This ships with linux limpus never used this myself so either stick ubuntu on it or factor in win 7 cost.

Price includes delivery.

Think you better do some more reading, this is dual core 1.8GHz not 1.6GHz, has faster memory and has ION2 graphics, thanks

Love my Revo 3600, this one is even better by the looks of the spec.

no probs your the boss, ddr3 ram is a bit dearer mind and i cant find the gadget article i read just now
#6
Not a fan of the limpus but ubuntu takes minutes to download and install (for free) so I would recommend that.

Think i read the article your talking about about the ion2 being not much of a step up, also forgot to say this supports wireless N.

Anyone interested just follow the threads on the avfoums.

What i will say is that maybe for people who already own a revo this maybe not worth the money, but for people perhaps considering a boxee box or another kind of streamer this could be a wise purchase.

there really is no point in these anymore. If you want compact you get a laptop. or a screen with the PC inbuilt. Its just a small low performing pc thats had to upgrade.

Iam looking at one for my 10yr old. Could you please suggest a laptop or inbuilt pc of similar or better performance in this price range.

Apart from the point 95% of people buy them for, to connect them to hdtv via hdmi and have a top performing silent HTPC that plays anything.

Btw this could clip to the back of an existing pc monitor to make it virtually invisible

Yup, 3610 if perfectly adequate for a HTPC if you can get one cheaper

You are a muppet.

If I wanted a laptop, I'd buy a laptop. If I wanted a screen with an inbuilt PC, I would buy a screen with an inbuild PC. If I wanted a media player to hook up to my 42" Plasma to play 1080p files and which can also cope with some light gaming, I'd buy a Revo. Which is exactly what I've already done.

wow im being sent to the south pole

Currently ion2 could be considered a step down in performance than the original ion board due to bandwidth limitations, but hopefully this situation will improve with newer driver updates. Pop off to google, as there is plenty about it on the web. NB this may only be an issue if you looking to use it as a full HD media centre though.

The original R3610 has an eSata port, this one doesn't... why Acer, WHY?

Exactly. Does this version do HD sound? If it does then it would be a worthy upgrade from the 3610 (which doesn't do HD sound)

So if you had the choice over this or a boxee box which one would you choose?

To be honest mate reading the boxee forums probs wouldn't touch the box for a while(although im sure all the probs will be sorted), its gotta be the revo just because its runs boxee well and is also a fully functional desktop.

That boxee remote is class though!

Um yeah you can play any format if you send it via media server.

No it doesn't play pc games but you can run Ps3 games, can a revo do that? lol

You can also run Linux instead of Windows 7

And also with homebrew coming out there are endless possibilities

ok so you actually need a pc running a media server? (i recommend a revo r3700) lol,
also the latest update remove the ability to run linux, im sure there will be a lot of potential with the homebrew/hacking scene if your prepared for a constant cat and mouse game with sony and its firmware updates.

Lets agree to disagree eh?

Nowt wrong with the Boxee Box, mine works perfectly, just the geeks moaning

I have a Revo (xbmc) downstairs and a Boxee Box upstairs connected to the Revo wirelessly. Which one would I choose? Depends on what you want from it. If you just need movies/tv (eg boxee/xbmc and no other PC functions) then I would go for the Boxee Box, 5 mins to setup and you're done.

I'll probs end up with the same setup as you mate, but to be honest if you can live without the pc functions and the boxee UI there's a plethora of streamers on the market for a lot less money that would be up to the job
