Have been looking for an ultrabook and this seemed to score very well. Had only ever seen it at £599+ anywhere in the last month or so but noticed this was on for £499 with Very. Got it within 48 hour…

Apologies if it's been on here cheaper before, I post very rarely on here!

I own this (Although the i5, white/gold version).

I've got no complaints, can answer any questions if anyone is interested.

One of the best notebooks out there (Not the best. The others that are better cost about 50%+ more than this for very little extra)

It's 1080p. Why it says that I have no idea. The Very description is wrong more often than not these days.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-inches-Notebook-S5-371-Windows/dp/B01J3UVWEA/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1480609535&sr=8-5&keywords=acer+aspire+s+13

It also says the screen is LCD, when it's an IPS.

Hi Rich, how do you find the fan on this laptop? Some reports say a bit noisy. I asked salfordgirl the same question a couple of days ago too which she kindly gave feedback on :)

To be honest I'd not noticed the fan in using it in the past day or so.

I'm not sure how much I'd believe it but having charged it to full for the 2nd time now it's saying 21h of power left...I very much doubt this would be the case?!

you can stretch it out to ten hours or so with low brightness, no back-lit keyboard and what not.

Usually you'll get a good 7-8 minimum though. It's battery life is v. good.

you can hear it here:

Mine, the i5, sounds nowhere near as loud or random as this though. Perhaps it's because it's the i7.

Acer announced that they updated the bios as the fan curve wasn't properly optimised. So a lot of the initial reviews that mention this will now be moot. Out of all the reviews I read I think only one mentioned fan sound and they dropped it by 1%/100 for it, which isn't much to worry about.

if you're this worried about fan sound you should buy an M core laptop, like the Zenbook. This has no fans and is passively cooled.

Thanks both for feedback on fan. I don't mind a bit of fan whirr. It's just I've had a L502x for the last 5 years which is notorious for its on/off fan. I'd just like something a little quieter! And for £500 (a good price) I'd hope it wouldn't be too noisy. Wouldn't mind a core M... just I'm halfway to a power user so need something with a little more bite :E

The fan on that video sounds horrendous tho! I presume this was before the bios upgrade? I might have a quick read up later - really like look of this laptop... just after a peaceful life haha. Thanks! :)
