The price is ok, processor is lower than Dells but screen is much better. 1050 is same as 970, so you won't be able to play newer games on high settings.

Newer games should work on mostly high at 1080p 60fps, I have a 970m, i7 games play great, very similar gpu

Yeah, was in the market for something portable, half decent GPU and able to run modern games on at least mid settings. Not looking to future proof myself for games more give the abitlity to play my back catalogue of games on the go. Best price I can find.

In that case it's a good choice ;)

Is it not the ti version? I can't see 1050 4gb only 1050 ti 4gb. Am I missing something?

There are 3 versions of the 1050: 2gb/4gb/4gb Ti. Nothing on the product page suggests it's the Ti.
Still a decent price :)

Thanks for clearing that up. I couldn't see any info on a 4gb 1050. Even on the geforce website.

Try to play on highest settings with +40FPS the following games:
Battlefield 1, Far Cry Primal, The Witcher 3, Just Cause 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, Metro Last Light Redux, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto V, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, The Division, Forza Horizon 3, Fallout 4 (with HD texture pack) and the list goes on & on.
You need at least 1060, 1070 as 1050 or 970 are too weak to handle them.

Have this card in a different laptop and can confirm 1080p at high settings is playable. Love all the experts around here who throw out a few word sentences without any proof then get annoyed when called out.

Just stating the fact mate, i've been dealing with high end laptops for some time, so i know what im talking about.
You must be deluded if you think 970 / 1050 can handle most new games on highest settings.

No one is talking about maxing out/ultra/highest, but high at 1080p with playable frames and a good experience is perfectly within reach.

I would assume anyone buying an acer for £800 isn't expecting the creme de la creme.

Er, no. The 1050 has the higher clock but the 970 has double the memory bandwith - well over 100GB/s more and well as more than twice as many shader units! In the real world ie real games, the 970 blows the 1050 completely out of the water. The 1050 is more comparable to something like the slower/less powerful 960. The 970 is a beast in comparison in terms of performance. The only advantage the 1050 has is its lower power consumption.

You've got yourself mixed up and posted a link to a desktop comparison. The mobile 1050 is comparable to the old 970m. The discussion is centred around the laptop gpu featured in the deal.

What you've said about the desktop variants is perfectly true.

Thanks for the post..

Got it from AO as they price matched and took off the £40 voucher code from the weekend so got the laptop for £759..

Thought it was a good price for the spec and not seen anything the same for the price.

No.....firstly, you've got to compare like for like, so desktop GPU v desktop GPU is the starting point. That provides the baseline and clearly shows that the 970 is ALOT more powerful, as you would expect.

If you compare the 1050 mobile GPU (which basically a desktop part) to the 970 mobile GPU, the 970 mobile GPU is still more powerful, even more so with anything that's particularly graphically demanding eg. Witcher 3 on high details. All those textures benefit from the higher memory bandwidth of the 970m.

The Ti is the one to go for, not the 1050, or better still, the 1060 which is phenomenal in terms of performance jump.

As for this particular deal, it's not a particularly good buy IMO as the VX15 also comes in a 1050Ti / SSD variant. That would be the one to go for, not the base 1050 version which is only an incremental improvement on the 960 in terms of performance.

Mine arrives tomorrow.. Will let you know how I think, I was torn between this one and an Msi for £700 and came with same CPU but a 960m instead, although the laptop looked better..

The spec is more than enough for me as not paying really stupid money for a Ti or 1060.

I play FM, Banished and citie skylines on my laptop and use my desktop for powerful games.

Yeah mine's just for accessing my back catalogue on the go and maybe a bit streaming at home. Was a little tempted by a high end laptop but couldn't justify the cost.

post 31 is full of other side stuff going on about desktop vs desktop - irrelevant
go on about memory bandwidths saying that 970 has over double or over 100GB/s more-as far as i can see it has 8GB/s more?
you say it wipes the floor with 1050ti but its not so big a difference ...as shown by your own chart (though ofc if the 970 is laptop it should be labelled as such)
no need to muddy the waters
