Heat and Rep added. Acers are the best, Ive had problems with any other PC I've bought. And acers have suited me and my family members very very well. I would recommend Acers to EVERY1 no matter what people say about them. And desktop at this price is a KILL.

Great little machine. Using at work now though I did pay £329 just before Xmas. Windows 7 on its way and the monitor is only VGA. Not a problem for me as I have a 22" samsung on the HDMI and the acer monitor as a secondary on VGA so dual display goodness:). Heat added

Are you saying that as an existing Vista user you can apply for a free Windows 7 update? I have recently inherited a relatively new laptop and its has Vista, but I hate it!!! Could I apply for this upgrade? Any help gratefully recieved.

pretty sure it has to have been purchased during the offer period which was probably from october 09 onwards.. i guess if you have a receipt give it a go otherwise give Acer a quick call and see..

I need a cheap but reliable desktop but already have a decent monitor.

Is there any market in flogging these monitors on ebay?

What do you think I would get?

Say I got £60, does that still make this a decent deal or am I best waiting for a computer only deal?

Only VGA? What 640x480
Oh you mean only VGA connectivity. It's not that bad.

Heat added. A very good deal

£300 for the base alone still seems reasonable to me. If you don't unwrap the monitor you may get £50 for it on ebay.

Do you happen to know if the upgrade is computer specific i.e. say I wanted to upgrade a different computer instead of the one that was intended, would I be able to do that without breaking the law?

The Acer upgrade is for Acer machines only. You could try another machine but it wouldn't work.

i could upload my reciept if you want?

its the one with the 9650 processor too, even though it had another sticker stating it had a 9450 processor lol

Actually, I've always found Acer products durable, sturdy and pretty much quality. Had a laptop from them a few years back and it lasted me years even though I spilled coffee in it and frequently left it out in the sun.

Also had a 32" lcd from them 4 years ago. Still use it today in the spare room and it's just fine.

Good deal for this PC if I'm honest - I'm tempted. The only thing I haven't ever had from Acer is a desktop. Are they upgradable? Or do they have some dodgy form factor or a lack of slots that we need to know about?
#25
I think Acer seem fairly good for everything, but their support seems a bit lacking, and no, their PCs aren't designed to be upgradable, there's a seal killing the warranty if you take the case off.

I think they're a decent budget brand, but not the best deal if you want something to upgrade later.

I'd go for the quad core as it'd be easier to upgrade the RAM later if 2Gb insufficient.

Going to check my Tesco for deal, if they have it I do not need the monitor as I already have 23" HD monitor.

Since the last service pack vista is a lot better. There really is too much hype about Windows 7.

So this has a PCI e slot and youc an fit a decent card in it right?
#35
great price

I have the X1200 and think it is great. Ideal as a media centre next to the TV - hardly hear it and when in sleep mode... low power and no sound at all. they normally have 2 half height connections - 1 is PCI-E full length (used for PCI-E Graphics cards) and 1 PCI-E mini (really small connector - I bought a Dual TV Tuner to fit this socket). Not sure about this model but the X1200 has 2 Memory slots and you can only fit a total of 4gb (2x 2Gb) in it....

True enough. Windows 7 IS better though.
A good fresh-install of VIsta on a reasonable spec machine and its perfectly usable and quick too

Just bought one of these last night and got the last one in store :) (London).
It rang up as a £279 (plus however many pennies).
Anyway, took it home and unpacked it, loaded up and here's my mini-review...

- The machine itself is quad core and gets a Vista CPU rating of 5.9, HDD gets 5.9, Graphics is the weak spot getting around 4.

- I connected to my 1080p TV using HDMI->HDMI.
Graphics card is an Nvidia 8200. It can play 720p mkv video (4Gb movie) no problems, but struggled a bit playing 1080p mkv video (11Gb movie) - got lipsync issues.

- The machine is a slimeline case looks nice, and is light weight. But only can take half height (low profile) cards. I think it has a free PCI-E slot and I will be getting a half height addon card to speed it up to play 1080p video. I haven't opened it up yet, but didn't want to break the warranty label just yet.

- The monitor is an Acer X193HQ 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor 1366x768 (worth £90 on Ebuyer)

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/188600

- The Vista has lots of bloatware installed. But I will be trashing it and putting Windows 7 on as soon as my 'free' upgrade arrives (£12.78 postage and handling!!!)

Overall, and great machine except for the GFX card, but absolutely great value for money. Thanks very much for posting!!!
