You ll be surprised, that really isnt the case anymore with the new celerons!
#6
Not a lot wrong with that for the price. Voted hot.

If you want a core2duo or quadcore, you're obviously going to be paying more...
#7
Cold - go with Dell, and you can get an extra 512MB of RAM, a bigger screen, and a faster chip for the same money. Less if you haggle. Without upgrades, that system's going to be pretty much unusable with that little memory.
#8
if you are only web browsing etc then the celerons are fine. low power, fair speed, bargain. i have a core 2 duo and my gf a celeron, and for emailing and browsing there is no real performance difference.

please try to make the titles a wee bit more descriptive katy... laptop £299 doesn't really tell people much :)

sorry:? only my second thread. I'll be more descriptive in future:thumbsup:

Celerons always had a bad reputation since the launch and always had lousy components and not enough memory. But give them the necessary environment and they would thrive.

As you can see from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_M_microprocessors
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Celeron_microprocessors
http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/celeron_m.htm
http://images.tomshardware.com/2007/07/16/cpu_charts_2007/cpu_table_intel_big.png

The Celeron M 530 is roughly equivalent to a Pentium M 740 with 1MB cache rather than 2MB... And believe me, you won't find the difference in most cases. The Celeron M is actually based on the Core Architecture wheras the Pentium M is a bit older.

Hence it would be fair to say that the Celeron M 530 is roughly equivalent to a Pentium M 740

hot - excellent price for a brand new lappy.

even if it is a celeron, they're perfectly adequate for most peeps needs.
