Good deal with the chromecast included. I've heard this one is very good except for the screen which is HD instead of full HD.

Grab one with a FHD screen, you'll be able to find one around this price.

the currys one is only 2gb ram

No idea mate, but I'd take a FHD over a greasy touch screen any day of the week :3

Zarjaz - I was able to get the r13 from laptops direct for £160 a while back. Apparently it was refurbished but it looked like new to me. Box was opened before so it was probably an unwanted return.

Its a fantastic chromebook and its touchscreen.

Worth checking laptops direct every once in a while. You sometimes find the odd bargain. The only downside is that their customer services are awful. Pay via credit card or PayPal as their online customer reviews aren't exactly glowing references.

It's also worth noting that this version is all supposed to do Android apps.

it is a great device. bought it in Argos for 249£. And now use it more than my laptop. it is fast, portable and can run android apps. Battery is great as well, holds all day long, and charging very fast

I love my Chromebook (Acer 720 from years ago). Use it almost every day, light, portable, cheap, disposable, instant on, snappy etc. Perfect for stuff on the go.

Can anyone confirm if they have managed to link a chromebook up to a windows shared network and watch mkv and mp4 films wireless on it? I had one for a while and could never get it to play any films off my shared drive connected to my windows desktop. If it allows google app store then could I use es file explorer and vlc like I do now on my tablet to watch films?

Thanks in advance.

Probably more chance now as you can install Android apps on this one:
Example app
I can't say for sure as I've not bought yet

HP Chromebook got same offer but they sneakily put price of Chromebook up from £205 to £220 before adding Chromecast for £30.

Install a Chrome extension called 'File System for Windows'. You will then be able to mount a windows share by adding a service in the Chrome file manager.

Why don't you use Plex? The server will do the transcoding and the Chromebook will play the stream.

Network File Share is another way of doing it though performance is a bit flakey in my experience (I prefer Plex).

Bought this last week direct from Acer as part of their Chromebook week for £224.99 delivered. It actually then went down to 199.99 for a short while but now back at 249.99.

It's decent but I find it a bit slow to load certain things and the screen not being full hd is very noticeable for certain things.

Still very decent for the price and it has replaced my gpad 8.3 very nicely.

After buying one I can confirm it does do Android apps.

Does it play now Tv?

I've enabled the Play Store. The Now TV app has installed, but I don't have an account with them. The fact that it has installed OK looks promising though!

Looks like many are taking up this deal as I can see locally many of the stores are now selling out of stock.

Be aware that if a Chromebook is refurbished you wont then be able to claim the increased google drive storage for 2 years, they check serial numbers!

Hi, does anyone know if the keyboard is detachable (yet allows you to connect up to the ACER via bluetooth) ? I am trying to make it ergonomic but wondering whether it is possible? Thank you

No, the keyboard is fixed to the screen. If you had a seperate bluetooth keyboard that would work as the Chromebook has bluetooth built in

Got mine from Tesco before Christmas, it was the last one on the direct site and I got it for £89 less £10 voucher.

Its a great bit of kit and has replaced my windows machine completely.

Would recommend this if you want a chromebook
