Nice Price for this specs!
#2
Me thinks this is going to get vvvvvvv hot...
#3
how good are bargain crazy for codes?

Do they come back and re-charge you later like littlewoods etc?
#4
Thats damn cheap!
#5
This Acer series with "Empowering Technology" is awful because they are not Windows compatible with out this dreadful software. You cannot install another OS without severe problems and the software slows down the laptop dramatically. Even though it is heap, unless you want to stay with slow Vista, I'd stay away from this model.

Just tried with code wengland66 and like the England team it failed (and yes I clicked all the right buttons)

I've never had or heard of any problems with Bargain Crazy codes. Plus, the code is actually listed on the homepage of their site :)

Fab price, great post jquach

#11
Code failed for me as well!

Can you really not install another OS on this laptop?
#12
Code works though, does for me anyway. Now costs £224.88 delivered.

Of course you can, no idea what that post was about TBH. Maybe he just meant you can't use the acer software on any other OS.

£278.94 - code not working
#16
Code won't work for me :(
#17
Try it in caps instead ;-)
#18
The code is working. Make sure that you delete the space at the end of the code if you are copying and pasting.

Yes you can install another OS, e.g. Windows 7, but you will have problems with over-heating and the like because the Acer software will not run on W7. I've had one, so I speak from first hand experience. You can also google for these.

BTW the problems ar cause by the BIOS not being 100% Windows compatible and Acer never provided an upgrade. So you will always have to run Empower Technology software, which is only compatible with Vista but not XP or W7.

But as always, you need to decide!

It is,switch it to caps

Typed in Caps WENGLAND66 worked but price gone up now
#23
19% code wouldn't work for me (in CAPS or lowercase) - although the £25 off one would (giving a price of £253)

@jquach - would be good to edit the deal to reflect the price hike to £279

Edit: Just tried the 19% code again (after deleting the WSAVE25W8 code) and it worked - strange as the form had remembered the code I'd typed and I let it auto-fill so it wasn't a mis-type...

Sounds like one of those ebuyer scams: Display a low price, list the item, then hike the price, LOL

Because it was £204.79 (with code) when it was first listed. The post's been updated since, in line with the price change.

I think it may have gone up as the carriage is now the more expensive £19.95 not the cheaper £3.95 which it was earlier.

I can't speak for this particular model but I have had two Acer aspires with "Empowering technology" software and both were XP. I did originally remove it; but it was quite a pain and when I had to install from the rescue partition (after Avast crippled my laptops) I didn't bother to completely remove it again.

I don't think there are many brands that don't include a pile of their own bloatware on your new laptop / PC.

Being that its got Vista already on it, how do you work that out?

£224 for me - good price.

I've had 2 Acer laptops, and would never trust them again. Maybe I've just been unlucky, but each time when the warranty has just expired, they've developed major problems with overheating, slow performance, poor battery life and just switched themselves off several times a day.

Looking for a cheap desktop now...!

Was just a guess, as the £224 price new price is £204 + the higher carriage rate, give or take a few pence (allowing for discount on the higher carriage too).

All gone, dam it

Could the overheating and performance issues it be dust build up on the fans / vents? Both my Acers and my works' DELL started to suffer with overheating and CPU throttling all within a few weeks of each other - vaccuming the fan intake and outlet vents resolved the problem on all three (Caution: this can cause harm to your computer - use your own discretion!). My Acer 5633 was running at 50C when idle and two minutes of play-back on an HD video (which was jumpy and stuttering due to the throttled CPU) would see the core temperatures over 85C and shutdown a few moments later. After the vaccum treatment the core temperature didn't exceed 60C no matter how I loaded it.

I do agree the batteries are poor - on both my Acers the battery didn't last more than a year; the 3 year-old 5633 still gets around 30minutes light-use though.

I was slightly concerned it wouldn't be honoured (at the £204 price), but its showing as dispatched now :)

Thanks again OP.

Well, those thinking you missed out, I don't think you did :(

What's arrived is a Celeron 550, 1GB, 80GB with Vista Home Basic. So not as per the spec listed on the website :(

Need to speak to them tomorrow when they open, but I'm guessing they all may have been hence the price.

That's a real shame (or should that be "sham" :x) - hope the don't mess you around with the refund.
