So now I'm on my computer, and not my crappy Windows phone, I can see the picture.
The box says it's the d257 n5700, and yet the price label says it's the d270 n600. I can only assume the box is correct, and not the label.

Ok but is it any good? We have an MSI Wind netbook I got off Argos/Ebay site a couple of years ago and this to have the same specs and is a little slow nowadays.

No, I think netbooks have become obsolete. Microsoft saw netbooks with Linux as a threat, and they made available Windows XP for next to nothing as long as the hardware was poor (by 2009 standards). The limits are still nearly the same, but software got a lot more demanding since 2009, XP is no longer an option, and Windows 7 does not work well on slow hardware.

In other words: netbooks are just too slow now. Even a 5 year old Lenovo X61 outperforms them easily, and that was never a power laptop...

As the very minimum, you should upgrade the memory to 2GB (or more, if possible). That will make the user experience only slightly painful.

You would be far better getting a nexus 7 1st gen from carphone warehouse for £6 more.

I don't agree. Putting XP on it is still and option although support will stop soon and they run fine. I think the biggest problem is people expect them to run like a desktop. One disadvantage of some of the older ones is that the gpu struggles to handle hd video...got older one of these still useful but do admit my chromebook is making it less so!

There is something odd about the mobile site. I am never able to reply to a thread, also cannot find a way to click through to the deal.

XP expires on April 8th 2014, it'll still work but won't receive support/security updates from Microsoft, so I'd advise not to use XP where possible. Linux is a better bet if you want speed on a netbook.

Try holding CTRL then hitting F5 to refresh the page, see if that helps.

So many netbooks are returned by customers as they expect too much from them. Much better off with a Chromebook in my opinion.

Do you mean the box says its an N570 & the label an N2600, which is far more likely?

N570 is the slightly faster (though previous gen) processor, but the N2600 will run faster in reality due to its better graphics capabilities (and use less power at about 3W).

Typing this on the faster N2800 processor netbook with 4GB memory (N2600 only supports 2GB, as does windows 7 starter) dual boot with windows 7 starter & Ubuntu, that I use for travelling.

I had intended to shove in a 256GB SSD, but the speed is fine so stuck with the 320GB HD.

Never had speed issues as its decrapped, & is almost impossible to max out its four threads. 6-7 hours battery life on wifi when keeping power use low.

Only issues are...

600 line screen, but powers a monitor fine, & I keep a cable in the bag to use hotel TVs.

Could do with backlit keys, although I have two poundland booklights when needed.

No USB3, but as I have nothing else USB3 yet, its not an issue as such.

I have the Aspire One 722, with the C-50 processor (1Ghz), with 4Gb RAM, (in the rare aqua colour!).

It runs fine for most things, however watching youtube is a complete no no. I don't know why but youtube kills it.

I've got used to an iPad and this netbook drives me crazy now with it's slow speeds. I can barely play CS on it, which although is rare for me to do, would be nice if I could do it!

Guess it depends on what distro as ubuntu full is actually really slow on netbook but also the most user friendly! I have a site licensed xp so better for me and can cope with nearly a year before reformatting! You are right though if somebody can manage linux it is better....curious...is this a general statement or do u own one? If so which distro you use?

Stick Linux on it and the 1Gb will be fine and it'll run fast enough. A 10" notebook like this is really ment to be used for writing documents on the go (tablets don't do this very well. The onscreen keyboard will numb your fingers after a awhile), looking at the internet and writing emails. If you're expecting to play 3D games on this, then you'd be very disappointed

Anyone seen this at any other Tesco, or is it the usual run-around?

Try Linux Mint 14 using Mate desktop NOT Cinnamon. Ubuntu will run too slowly. I haven't tried Linux Mint 15, but 14 runs fine with low CPU usage on idle, but you must use MATE desktop. Other options are Crunchbang and Puppy Linux, but they really are basic.

Did you actually try installing XP on one of these? It is not possible, no more drivers for video card and other components.
I did try.

**** like that should be a requirement to post. It's rather critical to whether a deal is a deal or not.
