can you tell me which store. thanks

The store is Morrisons Stevenston Ayrshire although store manager advised it was the E627 that arrived in other stores as well. I just asked to see the laptop that was advertised in the national papers for £249.
There were adverts instore saying £279 but manager took them down while I was waiting. Store manager supplied E627 without prompting and sold at advertised price of £249 in the Sun and Mirror.

Thankyou Apeds for your kind entry

do you know if you can burn on the dvd ie download and record or does it just play. thanks dont know much about laptops.

The problem with Acer's 'e machines' brand and their 'Packard Bell' brand is that the build quality is worse than poor as are is the quality of what's inside.

Low price for this though...very!

I'm typing this on 2 year old Gateway (another Acer Brand) I got for £260 - mine takes a lot of abuse getting carted to work in a rucsac (it's been dropped twice and only suffered minor cosmetic damage) and from lab to lab. I think this is the first deal I've seen for a higher spec laptop and a lower price! At this kind of money if it lasts1 year it's OK for a cheap laptop. HOT

and
+1 for your opinion
My workmate got sony vaio he paid $2500 last year.
He has to keep it clean in proper laptop bag. with covers and sleeves. And then it got virus last month. He lost most of his data.
It looks brand new now but hardware is old spec now.
I feel sorry for him.
I would have rather something which I can use (abuse) properly and replace with new one within one year without much regret

Norwich Morrisons has loads of stock of the E625 @ £249 so E627 is £299.
#13
1.6GHz Processor is Single Core?

I thought you can only find this speed in Netbooks these days.

So what? :?

Any machine can get a virus, this one included!
Getting a virus means you need a good internet security & anti virus setup, a data backup system & regime, and it means you need it urgently!

The last thing it means is you need is a new PC!

thankyou

Yes that is my point if you spend $2200 on laptop it still gets virus . :whistling: same like £249 e-machine.

Morrison's in Eccles, have noth e625 and e627, £249 and £299 respectively, so I don't think I could get an e627 for 249.
#18
does yours have a webcam as the amazon one does but it seems like the morrisons doesnt.

Sorry l havent kept up with the post. Im glad someone else has found the deal. Mines definately Windows 7. Set up parents laptop and it works great. They were upgrading from 6 year old budget £500 emachines desktop and it was looking like a £350-£400 spend until this deal came along. It is being used for surfing, e-mails, photo storage/printing, office style use and mp3-mp4 storage playback. Build quality is much better than you would expect at this price. Absolutely no creaks or rattles, Just a slightly plain and maybe little bit thicker body if Im being ultra critical, although my sisters 3 year old Dell £600 is just as thick and perhaps not as well specified eg 60Gb Hard Drive and 512 Mb Ram.

does yours have a webcam?

Hi a stone
I dont think it does didnt notice on parents and mines is a Christmas gift from Santa for my 9yr old son and still sealed. On the box there is no tick for webcam, not a problem as it would probably be 0.3 Megapixel the same as Amazon at best. Have a look on amazon or play and there are plenty of ?? Megapixel cams available for little money, any of those would give far better results. I also noted quite a few with led illumination which would help with image quality.

thanks ,was just wondering as the model on amazon does then again its £100 more.

I saw these in the Redditch branch last week and they had both models in stock.

If they are doing the higher spec one for £249 that's excellent.
Much better value than a £200 netbook
#26
thats a great deal especailly with santa wound the corner

I got one of the notebooks from acer and they are also great if you already have a laptop for all the major stuff

The CPU is low spec at this price. At 200 quid or less mabe its worth it.
I'm typing on an Asus X58L 2.0 Ghz M575, 120HDD, 1Gb ram, DVDRW, Vista basic upgraded to win7 home prem, 802.11n,. it hasp the X3100 chip. It was up at Argos for 279 but had the sis chip which is worse than X3100. I got it from Asda for 200 quid.

Its Ok for kids, browsing internet etc, office.
CPU speed is 4.1 and memory comes to 4.9(upgraded to 3GB ram).

The Asus is a quality brand and well worth 200 quid.

What on earth are you taking?

Thats like saying 'my mate bought a £3 million pound house the other year, and he forgot to turn the heating on one night so the house got cold. So, he might as well have bought a terraced house in Bradford for £20k and saved himself the cash'

Sigh, it's you that should get a life. Some people would prefer to spend a little extra cash, and get something thats a bit better made, and has a bit better support should something go wrong. Theres nothing wrong with either view, horses for courses.

Yeah, nothing wrong with Acer (i've got 3 Acer lappys with no probs), and for under £250 if the build quality is visually slightly more basic ithan other makes it's still a good deal for the price.

Also Acer are very quick with repairs if something was to go wrong under warranty... a lot quicker and more straight forward to deal with compared to some other laptop manufacturers

35 out of 40 acer laptops returned from work this year , so , no thanks even if it was free id still avoid it, ive dealt with Ass'ole support so many times this year id rather not take the risk.

on/off displays
dodgy touch pads
intermittent keyboards
dead batteries
real budget cases

and the spec is crap

no thanks
#33
Just popped into Morrisons Portsmouth they had E627 boxes on show for £249 but the spec on the side was i'm assuming that of an E625 (1gb ram, 160gb hdd).
#34
Ok just bought one from the The Fort in Glasgow branch.But...

It says E627 on the side but with 1 gig of ram 160GB HDD and Vista home premium.

Not sure about opening it now, i should of checked but only checked to make sure the model number was E627.

I have now done a search and the part number for the one i got is LX.N640X.001, there seems to be 2 different specs for that
one with 1gb and 160gb and the other with 2gb with 250gb. Not sure what the part number is for the one with windows 7 at the start of the thread.

Rosco123, Can you confirm the part number on the side of your box please ??

Who is policing the forums?

There was a resonable debate going on here about the pro's/cons of Acer as a brand. It contained reasonable arguments for both sides and also included costs into the argument.....but alas the posts have all vanished.

renagade27 some of your posts have vanished? -Why i thought they were valid

Anarchist - some of your posts have been cleared too. - why?

Any moderators want to comment or will this be cleared too with no reason.
