A Celeron processor is as good as a stick of celery in a laptop. They should be used only in pocket calculators.

Whilst I agree Celeron's are clank, it's a case of "what you want to do" with a laptop - or desktop for that matter.

Why pay more for a higher end CPU that you'll never use to it's capability? If a lower end CPU does the job you want it to a lot of people will be satisfied more by the saving than irrelevant performance!

agree

think that the Celeron single core is at least twice as fast as Atom installed in most netbooks and nobody complains

That's quite a piece of disinformation as you can probably tell from the posts above. I've been using an Acer 5020 with a Turion 64 cpu for about 4 years now and it manages perfectly well with the likes of Photoshop CS2. This Celeron is faster than that old Turion so it should be more than fine for home use.

Nothing wrong with a Celeron in a 230 quid laptop ! Horses for courses.....

Anyone know if this has an inbuilt webcam?

20GB you lucky lucky bast**d, my 1st works one was 40MB, VGA Mono screen and a frizbee 5.25" drive. We could make a cup of tea and sandwiches whilst it loaded into its dos programs.

On the post though, its a good price for abasic laptop, hot.

I can go better than that! My first PC had a 20MB hard drive! Ha!

As I said, mine was 20 gigs - on the label anyway... Thanks to all the people who stated lower even if only for making me feel young. That said I was a late starter with PCs!

Kev... Sorry mate but just got distracted by your avatar... Reminded me of diagrams in biology lessons back at school... Guffaw!

I've noticed lots of negative Celeron comments. I would agree if I was in a kneejerk situation but I have to say that although the word Celeron makes my physically sick due to a lot of bad experiences in the past, Celeron processors are fine for basic non-intensive tasks such as surfing the web, msn and office activities.

I realise that the bad experiences I mentioned were mainly my friend being dumb and complaining "why won't this run gta san andreas" with a celeron 2.4Ghz (from 2005) and 256mb of ram with integrated graphics", he bought his pc from woolworths against my advice of letting me custom build him one even though im well known to my family and friends as the free/beer home tech support guy, aaah RAGE!

then we had to get up 3 hrs before we went to bed etc etc:whistling:

the processor is NOT the problem here. VISTA is. This laptop would be a perfect entry level laptop if it had XP on it. I have seen numerous laptops of this spec running Vista and to be honest every single owner moans about the speed.

So if you replace this with Windows 7 will (Should) be faster !!
#29
Upgrade the ram another 1gb ATLEAST but if youwant to keep vista then you need min 3gb of ram on this machine.
#30
I h.ave the 2Ghz 575 Celeron Asus X58L with the same specs but with GL60 chipset-intel 965.
It is slow with vista with 1gb ram..... most of ram is used in processes and the cpu usuage is above 50% and with multiple apps its near 100%.

Best advice if you buy it is upgrade ram to 2gb if u can and install XP or windows 7.

I have win 7 on this spec but upgraded to 3GB ram and it is running fine...
Obviously it won't beat the MBP i have which has C2D 2.2Ghz and nvdivia graphics but the celeron scored 4.6 cpu, and 4.2 memory on win7 exp test.

Even W7 requires 1GB minimum, and this machine will lose RAM to graphics. So I would say you need 2GB min for W7 as well
