Edit - Looks like this is part of their Boxing day deals which I believe end at the end of December so not much time to pick one up.

That was my first concern but I checked the response time on my current monitor, which is 5ms, and I have no problem playing games so this should be fine.

hmm..and another thing. this monitor is 1920 x 1080..the ppi won't be as high as a 24".

Which would you suggest. 24" 1080p or 27" 1080p

I'm not too sure as I haven't ever used a 27" monitor before but I'd say it just depends on how far away you are sat from your monitor. If you're really close then a 24" would probably be best, if you're at a decent way away from it then a 27" would probably be better. I don't think this monitor comes in 24" though so you might have to look for another.

Yes, that's odd.
The blurb says that it has speaker(s) but doesn't list HDMI or Audio-in in it's connections

They sell TN model
Acer K242HLbd Monitor 24" Widescreen Monitor

Or this IPS model
Acer G246HYL 23.8" IPS LED LCD Monitor

This should help anyone looking for 24" with IPS and price is fairly good compared to Aoc 24" @ PCWorld/Currys @ £129.99

If that monitor has speakers, what is the audio input? :|

Looking at the back and at Acer's spec sheet, it looks like it accepts a 3.5mm jack analogue input for audio. For some reason the spec sheet says it supports MHL, which might be true if you get an MHL to HDMI adapter, then split that into DVI and 3.5mm analogue... that's a lot of hassle though.

Reminder btw that there's no audio sent over DVI or VGA, even if you get a HDMI to DVI adapter.

Pretty sure this monitor has HDMI. I know the Acer website doesn't list it, but the 22" and 23" versions both have HDMI, VGA and DVI so it would be odd if the 27" didn't. Also, if you Google the model number, several websites mention that it has HDMI in their product descriptions and/or reviews.

But still, if anyone buys this from Box it would be great if they could confirm either way!

I was of the same opinion. I've seen various reviews. and all of them had HMDI ports in them ;s

If all other factors are taken out of the equation (response time, contrast ration, brightness etc.) then you won't really notice a difference between the image quality of 24" and 27". You really just need to decide which size monitor you would prefer to use. If it's going to be your main monitor then do you really want as big as 27"? I currently use a 23" and that's plenty big enough for browsing the net and doing work. I imagine 27" would feel a little too big for those tasks. So if you're going to be doing a lot of non gaming tasks on it then I'd go for the 24".

However if this isn't going to be your main monitor, or you're going to be spending most of your time gaming/watching videos, I'd go for the 27".

Just found this monitor on Ebuyer for £99.99. http://www.ebuyer.com/646732-acer-g246hyl-23-8-led-ips-hdmi-monitor-um-qg6ee-009 - Fantastic for the money.

Heat. Other than my experience of Acer customer support being the same as that time I accidentally walked into a brick wall, it seems a great deal.

I already have a 27" Acer G276HLA LED monitor and although specs are very similar this monitor seems about 15% dimmer with white level brightness but as I'm using the LED monitor as a reference perhaps the IPS monitor is more accurate?
Regardless text and graphics are incredibly crisp and the bezel quite minimal.
Overall I'm very pleased for the price.
