For £350, I would go for this Toshiba from John Lewis. It only has 2GB of memory, and Vista Basic (so no free Windows 7 upgrade), but it has a 2 year John Lewis guarantee.

I bought a Dell 1545 from the outlet a couple of weeks ago for £264 including VAT and delivery. It has a slight cosmetic scratch (shallow and about 2cm long - you have to look for it to notice it) and otherwise a similar specification to this (a 2Ghz T4200 processor, no web cam, a 4 cell battery, but with Vista Home Premium so there is a free Windows 7 upgrade).

Surely this processor is significantly faster than the Toshiba you posted?

I'd also note the HD graphics card, 'n' Wi-Fi, larger screen and keyboard.
#3
Very good Specs, ordered one this morning!
#4
Is the Grahpics Card on this any good for Gaming?
#5
Shame its Acer. I've had a couple and both died within a few months of light internet use.

No, it's just your standard Integrated graphics so it won't be up to much. Older games or those with low system requirements would be acceptable, but nothing more than that.

Also be aware that it comes with Windows Vista Home Basic, not Home Premium, which isn't exactly great. It also isn't eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7, according to the Acer website.

Won't be significantly faster, no. About the same I imagine, in most situations.

Sorry to nitpick but the title should be Aspire not Inspire
#8
As mentioned its integrated graphics which score a poor rating in all 3D tests..better than x3100 but just.
If gaming isn't required the T4200 penryn 45nm is faster than core 2 duo 5800 even though the latter has 2mb l2 cache.

I would still opt for dell Insp 1545 T4200 3Gb ram, 320Hd,webcam, X4500, for £280 del from outlet.
Which i'm receiving today and testing against my core 2 duo 5670 processor Vostro 1710 2Gb ram X3100.

link please

its obviously gone, its been canceled why do you want a link to a non existent item.

The deal is pretty hot tbh, I would go over this then the john lewis I'd rather have better spec over a longer guarantee as you can get insurance.
#13
4.19kg! Surely that's a mistake.
#15
good deal, surprised it hasn't gained more heat.
#16
I too am a little surprised.

Please do comment if you vote cold.

No it wont play top end games that well, I doubt you're looking for gaming laptops for £345!

Like for like reasons why a cold deal please.

IMHO, the HD is too small and the OS is too Basic, the 3Gb Ram is a red herring over 2Gb, and its an Acer so marks off for the likely quality (The 3 people I know with laptop from them have all returned them for fixing)

I sourced the Lenovo from ebuyer some time ago, and it was cheaper, had a larger drive, and has Vista Premium.
#18
Tesco have got this laptop reduced to £348, it looks like a slightly better spec to me...

Hear hear!. I bought one of their 20 inch "laptops" worked great for a year then boom!. I also had the netbook, 8 months down the line - DEAD!.
Their customer service is absolutely crap and I wouldn't buy anything from them again.
#20
I have had my Acer for over 5 years now, works superbly and they replaced the mother board free of charge in the first year and gave me a new charger free of charge outwith the warranty period too.

I would buy an acer again based on my experience with them, this is tempting - voted Hot

I am considering buying a laptop from DELL outlet... Anyone give me advise on what they are like?
#26
I've bought about 5 laptops from them over 3-4 years.
Quality is good, they've always lasted more than the std warrannty.
Refurbished is like as new..you have to look hard for usuage.....My new laptops seem to be abused by the kids so they will end up worse in a few weeks anyway...so whats up with one tiny scratch...thats my take on it......plus ur getting about 100 quid cheaper than brand new.
The dell outlet is not included in win7 upgrade just had this confirmed... if ur lucky you might slip thru but had conversations with them and they will NOT ALLOW ANY DELL OUTLET machine to have win 7 upgrade.

i would def buy..just wait for best prices as they go up and down every week.
#27
Sounds good!! Thanks for the reply

I am typing this on the very same model, the fan is vibrating and is very noisey only had it a 4 months. Acer say soeak to the retailer.
In fact fan has just stopped again which is initially a relief but I worry how hot it will be getting?
#29
From what ive read and heard Acer quality is improving but the older model still suffer from issues.
Their quaility is can not be as good as DELL.
i WOULD pay another 50-100 for an equiv Dell.

Update: spoke to DELL about Windows 7 upgrade and the system i ordered does not qualify even though its Vista prem and 1545 Inspiron, as its outlet deal.

luckily i had email conf that dell outlet is covered unbder win7 prior to ordering and thus they have allowed my service tag to be upgraded to win 7, I could\be that post june 26 service tags are allowed but i doubt it as i was told dell outlet will not allow win 7 upgrade for vist prem

I would buy Dell again...but the new MacPro netbook is under my radar now.

why is that then?
#34
Yes warranty is transferrable and is Collect and return to base.Which means they pay for it to be picked up and they send you packaging and they pay to send it back. If you have invoice you can tell them you have different collection address should anything go wrong.

Warranty will be based on service tag which is 12 months from July 16th.
If you want it you can either PM me or bid on ebay when it goes on in next week or two.
I',m also selling my Vostro 1710 C2D T5670 2GB Ram Dual Hard drive 240Gb 1400x900 resolution screen 17" screen Vga, firewire, 6 USB Wlan,

This laptop works well and is up at £195....on ebay

The thing is i've bought 4 laps and 3 netbooks and wife says i must sell some.
