Looks like no Dixons cashback using Egg card anymore.

anyone know if this has a webcam, bluetooth, esata, hdmi port? only the minimal specs seem to be on the net.
#3
Can someone tell me why the big interest in refurbished stuff? Isn't that just stuff that's been returned because it was faulty or the person decided on seeing it that it wasn't worth having? i.e. it's second hand goods?

Not knocking buying second hand (plenty of that on ebay...but I wouldn't vote it hot....). Maybe I'm missing something?
#4
Damn that's a good spec for the money. I wonder if refurbished means you can expect any dead pixels?

I think the specs for this model are probably these here

[Edit: Sorry - just checked that this link just goes to the acer prduct page :( - if you browse to notebooks> aspire 7220 it's the last tab in the configuration list:-
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium, Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5750 (2.0GHz, 2MB Cache 667FSB), 17" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite™ TFT LCD, 3GB RAM, 250GB 5400rpm Hard Disk Drive, Blu-Ray drive, NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300M G 256 MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM, up to 768 MB of shared system memory, Intel® wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (dual-band quad-mode 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N), 6 cell Li-ion Battery, 5 in 1 card reader (SD), (MMC), (MS), (MS PRO), (XD), 0.3 MP Crystal Eye Webcam, ]

Webcam = Yes .3mp
Bluetooth, Esata, HDMI = No
It does have DVI.

OK it's refurbished - but that's a lot of spec for not too much money.

A refurb will come with a warranty so it's not quite as much of a chance as second hand.

This is the cheapest 7720g I could find on the net:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3477773/Acer-Aspire-7720G-Core-2-Duo-T7300-2-0GHz-2GB-250GB-17-WXGA+-DVD-SM-Vista-Home-Premium-Laptop-Notebook/Product.html

So that's £130 more for a machine with less RAM, although I don't know how the graphics compare.

At £370 you are getting a machine with Bluray, large disk, reasonable graphics, 3GB RAM and 17" screen. You will find that hard to beat even second hand.

postage is inclusive, make sure you don't mistakenly select a specified delivery time as this will incur delivery charge...like i just did ...oops

A few questions.
As this does not have HDMI out are DVi - HDMI converters cheap?

Do these refurb laptops come with system installation / recovery discs?

edit
To create recovery disc on these laptops you have to press alt + f10

Any reports of overheating problems with these nvidia chipsets?

The time is right now for the site owners to generously reward people who list red hot deals.

£20 at Maplin but you might find cheaper elsewhere:

Amazing deal. Too bad I don't need one.
#11
Hopefully it will be in stock for anyone who wants one. I ordered the HP one from yesterday and have yet to have it confirmed by Dixons. I expect it's yet another case of Dixons advertising products they don't actually have.

I have Acer 5315 and it came with second partition on HDD for recovery. I would assume that this one would have something similar.

Damn i just ordered mine in excitement, only to read this that they might not have in stock.. but at the time of ordering if they state it is 'In Stock', should there still be any concern whether they will deliver one. From experience has anyone not had it delivered when it says 'In Stock'?

Frequently. Probably 80% of the things I have ordered from Dixons/Currys/PC World that seem to be a good price haven't been honoured. The laptop I ordered yesterday was 'in stock' too, but I haven't had the confirmation e-mail. That's not to say it definitely won't come, just probably.

2nd great deal on an Acer laptop today! (There's another lower spec for £300)

I wouldn't be put off by the "refurbished" - it's been returned by somebody either because they changed their mind or because it was faulty (but it's fixed now). Still a new laptop with full warranty & damn cheap.

Don't know if Acer supply full OS disks - my refurb Gateway (same company) did. I did a full reinstall to get rid of all the crapware and HDD partition, it's been a great laptop ever since!

webcam yes
bluetooth, esata, no
HDMI, quote a review:-
could have had a HDMI on it instend of a DVI as DVI only sends picture and not sound as well, so can watch BLUE-RAY on HD TV
end quote

Would you be good enough to put the link for this laptop review.

anyone know if this has gigabit ethernet (10/100/1000) or just 10/100 ethernet? I have a gigabit router and gigabit desktop so would want gigabit ethernet port for full speed.

cant find this info on google, anyone got this laptop who knows?

Stay away from Acers. Chances are it will fail to boot anymore about two weeks after the warranty has expired.

Yep, I noticed that. Still a good price for a laptop with 17" screen though.
#29
im sorry but acers are bad enough,

nevermind when they have been refurbished...............
#31
This laptop is also upgradeable. Quick google search brought up forums with people upgrading the CPU and even the graphics as there not integrated. according to the Acer website specs you can add a 2nd HDD too. Nice idea to check ebay from day to day for an upgrade bargain if you get one.
#32
Guys, please correct me if I'm wrong, but if acer has a few hundred of these for sale (I assume that quite a few people already bought this refurb laptop), then why do they have SO many refurb laptops?? it doesn't sound very good to me.... although the price and specs are SUPER.
#33
Obviously some people have had bad experiences with Acer.

As a counterpoint, I've had my Travelmate (240 , I think) for 6-7 years and never had any hassle (or bits fall off)!
#34
I was interested untill i saw it was refurbished.
