Some people complained that the screen wasn't bright enough to use the phone as a sat nav in the car, most people had positive views.

Full review here. It seems to me like this is one to AVOID.

I think the issues with the phone are mainly in comparison to the HTC touch pro 2 but it costs from £436 so at this price this may be a compromise some are willing to make. There are quite a lot of reviews about and I think itpro is probably the most negative I have decided to take the plunge at this price and realise I will probably have to install a custom lite rom to give me more free memory.

What's that, how much does it cost, and how easy is it?
#7
anyone know of any quality car kits for these?
#8
@motley google acer m900 lite rom They are custom roms which can be downloaded that people have modified to remove unnecessary features and give you more memory for running programs that you want to. They are free to download.

I must admit I am surprised this hasn't got more heat. I just checked fleabay and these are selling at about £250. One seller has sold 10 in a recent auction - Guess thats where the stock went last time.
#10
anyone got an idea what web use is like on this?
#11
I was about to post this but was being lazy, Just bought one, i think its the best deal at this price.

ok ordered friday, arrived and set up yesterday and what a sweet phone this is interface after a bit of tweaking is superior to the htc touch hd which my gf has, only 1 little problem so far is can't get it to work with tomtom7, think its the assisted gps as i can't get a signal here and can't fing how to stop it checking the phone network before kicking up the internal gps receiver, or it could be i'm using a work sim with no data facilities on..
will report on the screen brightness issue after use tomorrow

Excellent Thanks,

Can you tell me where did you get tomtom7 from and sorry if i sound thick "its my first wm phone" how do you install it.
#14
I haven't tried TomTom myself yet but I read on a WM forum that the required settings were Other NMEA GPS receiver GPS baud rate 57600 and then AGPS. I set up a pocket navigator program and it worked with NMEA COM7:AGPS and Baud 57600.
#15
How are people finding the phone? Is web use manageable or is it a pain and glitchy?

I see expansys have dropped their price to £189.99 now ( £196.60 inc VAT and delivery).

yeah was reading that but on impulse tday i had a fiddle and found set ttn7 to other nmea rec, port agps or 2 and baud of 112500, maybe they changed something but the 57600 baud did not work for me

If anyone is trying to run accelerometer games (resco snake ,bubbles, marble world 2) then they can download a dll from the HTC diamond which will allow them to work on the M900. . Google Graviity Sensor Applications HTCsensorSDK.

Re web use I am slightly disappointed I have used a Nokia N800 previously and prefer the browser on that. The screen is the same resolution but physically larger on the N800 (4.3" as opposed to 3.8"). I have tried Pocket IE, Opera and Skyfire none are perfect. I like Skyfire as it looks like the web on a bigger screen but it is blurry looking, perhaps a newer version will be better. The browsers work OK but I don't feel they make the most of the high resolution screen.

anyone tried the camera out much, i know my m8 is ginger but a photo of him came out very red/orange a la scott mills
#20
Ah, downloaded the tomtom 7 but cant get it to work.

""" sorry, this is not the correct activation for the product 'western_Europe_1GB' """

Getting this error message and its really getting to my nerves :@

Can anyone help please

Edit: Map was not getting patched right, so used a different pc and it worked fine.

Battery is bad because of screen but yours sound too bad.

With wifi i am having issues that if you are connected and phone goes to stand by, wifi gets disconnected. which i dont like. Any one got any solution for that?

Another problem i had is i launched acer shell today( mostly i dont keep it on because of ram) but it wasnt displaying any icons right, It was just white squares instead of icons. so i had to restart phone to get it in right shape.

i really like the acer shell, ram is not an issue for me as i use it purely for phone and sat nav rarely do any other multi tasking.
The voice manager is superb and i really like the "digit dial" due to using my phone from across the room (on headset) from my desk where it can get a signal

sorry its called voice commander and its in programs and takes 2 mins to train
if u have setup a bt headset just press the call button to initialise athough it can also be started from the button between power and camera or the rh side of phone.
digit dial is press button and say "digit dial" then the number you wish to call, you can say it quite fast and so far seems to be 100% accurate best i've used
you can add voice tags to everything, media programs etc bit like the iphone advert
