......but with only 512mb memory

Does it come with a free fridge to keep the actual netbook as cold as the deal?

What happened to good laptop deals. I bought 1 with a 15 inch widescreen nearly 2 years ago with a dual core processor 2gb ram and 120gb hard drive for £190. I want 2 now for the kids for christmas and the deals are all rubbish.

Seeing as the country's nearly bankrupt the pound is worth f-all

Everything else seems to be getting cheaper. Including electrical items ipods etc. The only things that seem to be going up in price are push bikes, maybe because people can't afford to drive everwhere anymore.

Morgan describe it as factory refurbished and as new, so I would expect it to be new old stock. I've bought things from them in the past and have always been satisfied with the goods and service.

I notice also that you have a lot to say about other people's contributions but seem not to have posted any deals yourself.

Ah... I see. When reasonable argument fails, have a go at a personal level.

Thing is, it seems we are both have one thing in common - we are not too good at finding hot deals; the difference is, I just don't bother posting bad ones.

This site seems to work very well with some people being very good at finding good deals, and others who have a world of experience on various or specific subject areas who are noticeable by the amount of reputation they receive for their posts or other information they can give. Clearly some people have a better opinion of some of that information than you as I am never short of reputation received.

To be honest, this item doesn't really need much experience or personal knowledge of anything, as anyone with the slightest interest in computing and a regular view of the pages of this site would see this is is poor value, so my experience of Morgan's very poor service & failure to send items becomes a bit irrelevant for that reason

Still, I suppose that post made you feel better.

I thought it had improved a good bit again - It has only been a couple of weeks since Comet had N270 processor Netbooks with 160Gb HD for about £192 using a discount code, NEW (was it Acer ones or MSI, I can't quite remember?) and a friend of mine bought a Dell Netbook with TV card & gps for £208 less Quidco at 3% not long before that!

Plenty of 300 quid 15" machines have been posted over the past few weeks some with reasonable specs, but have to admit if you buy TOO cheap, they are potentially very poor value.

Your initial comment didn't strike me as reasoned argument. I countered your condemnation of Morgan, which was unsupported by any evidence, by making the point that my experiences with them had been favourable. That does seem to me to be a reasoned argument.

Looking at it objectively: out of 15 deals I've posted, seven have topped 300 degrees. I don't know how that compares with the average, but I would like to think it's a useful contribution overall. I've never posted a deal that didn't seem reasonably good to me. If someone comes back with a genuine reason why it's poor, or there's something better out there, then I'll accept that.

Thanks - considering this as i need 2 netbooks for Xmas presents. Although not XP I could source and install that myself with the £120 saving on a similar machine. Ordered from Morgan before with no problem.

If any were needed to the regular readers of the site with numerous recent good deals on Netbooks, I think that is more specifically mentioned in the post I last made replying to a comment on the lack of deals. There have been a number of good Netbook deals on here recently, with NEW machines as low as £199 or even about £193 once Quidco is included, those include a Windows XP licence too, so no absolute need to spend anything on a copy of Windows 7 as most users want Windows machines.

Some recent NEW Netbooks featured here:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/492474/acer-aspire-one-a150-bgw-3g-atom-n2
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/513423/asus-eee-pc-1001ha-10-1-netbook-for
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/509717/medion-akoya-mini-e1210-10-netbook-
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/514916/samsung-n130-netbook-laptop-atom-n2
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/513514/acer-aspire-one-d150-1bb-netbook-at
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/513155/samsung-n130-netbook-209-68-comet-i

Currently, Comet, one retailer alone (without me even bothering to search ) has several 199 quid machines, with windows XP already installed all NEW and all subject to a few bob back from Quidco too:
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/564214/ACER-AOD250-0BK
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/563404/ACER-D150-1GB-160
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/561215/COMPAQ-110C-1010SA

If users are willing to make do with a slightly smaller screen, this is only 180 quid at the moment, and again it is NEW:
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/551635/ACER-ACER-AOA150-BW/tab/accessories

Will those do?

The prospects of a second-hand repaired machine for 150 quid, with a 3 month warranty (which of course will have a battery of unknown history) & which comes without Windows, or a choice of more than one for under 199 quid, less a potential small rebate, some of which you can even pick up and have running today, seems to put things in perspective & it seems most voters here are clear too.

If that's not reasoned enough for you, then I can't illustrate it any more vividly and rest my case as I can only go SO far in stating the bleeding obvious!

The alternatives you have cited all cost at least £35 more than the one listed here. Yes, they include XP, but a lot of people have recently acquired Windows 7 licences on the cheap through various deals posted on HUKD and elsewhere. Combine this netbook with a cheap Windows 7 licence and you have a W7 netbook for no more than the cost of an XP netbook.

You raise the spectre of "2nd hand", but a lot of hardware that Morgan sell as factory refurbished is effectively brand new, unsold stock from the manufacturer. In this case, they describe the goods as "as new" and I, for one, would expect to receive one in that condition. Some would prefer to pay more for a 12 month warranty, rather than 3 months, but it's often said that any inherent fault will show itself early in a product's life.

In short, this wasn't posted as a deal for an XP netbook. It's a decent netbook at a price that makes it a viable basis for upgrading to Windows 7.

WOAH!! .......... PUTTING ON DEALS BEFORE SELLING THE BUSINESS..... SCAMMERS!! :stocking:

AND FOR THAT REASON... IM OUT
#23
Well, it seems to me that the linked article says the online business has been bought and continues to trade.

However, as there are individuals who seem bent on bringing this deal down for their own satisfaction, I'm expiring it now - while I'm ahead :)

Hardly gone bankrupt or anything, just changed owners, as happens all the time.

It's been bought by the owners of
IJT Direct
Cartex.co.uk

..and they are running it as normal. No cause for alarm.

I wouldn't have expired it just because of nihcaj's tantrum either

What are you one about, what tantrum?
Its crap whoever sells it at that price, so that's all because of MY tantrum?

As for Morgan, they have cost me money before, and I would not deal with them over a 5 quid mouse let alone a 150 quid item, but to me in this case it is irrelevant as it wasn't a good buy in the first place.

If you were on a tight budget, then yes this was a good buy...everybody has a different POV on what's appropriate to them and what they need at the end of the day.

I received my Aspire One from Morgan Computers quickly and it arrived in perfect, as new condition. Have installed a full version of Windows XP Pro and Office 2007, and they both run quickly with no hitches. Great netbook, and very pleased with the deal.
