It's a great looking monitor, with a very nice glossy reflective screen. The build quality isn't great, but you can't argue with the price.

hot for hdcp

Does it have built in speakers?

Anyone know where to get a freeview box with hdcp out as cheap as possible?

I have a AL1916W which is a 19" widescreen VGA monitor, what makes this better? I watch HD movies on this one with ease so can't see the advantage of HDCP. Also what advantage does DVI have over VGA?

for people like me who didn't know what hdcp meant:

HDCP - HIGH-BANDWIDTH DIGITAL CONTENT PROTECTION
HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection and was developed by Intel Corporation. Politics aside, HDCP is a technology embraced by the Motion Picture Association of America as it eliminates the reproduction of copyrighted material.
Combined with HDCP, DVI was the standard for digital television until a few years ago when HDMI was introduced.

DVI - DIGITAL VISUAL INTERFACE
DVI was created by the Digital Display Working Group, and stands for Digital Visual Interface. It allows for a high speed uncompressed connection between a digital television, personal computer, and other DVI-based consumer electronics devices. The input is something like you’d find on the back of your computer. One big benefit of DVI is the uncompressed transfer of high definition video.
While you don’t see it when you receive HD programming, it goes through a conversion from the source to the set-top box to your screen. Usually, component cables are used to transfer the red-blue-green signal. The advantage of DVI is that it only requires one cable to transfer the red-blue-green signal, and the speed it transfers an image is significantly faster than the analog component cables, which benefits the overall viewing experience on DLP, Plasma, and LCD televisions.

Could you just use a dvi to hdmi cable to use the hdmi output from a dvd or freeview box and this would work?
#9
Thanks wordsworth, so DVI is a bit higher bandwidth than VGA? Doesn't seem to affect me since I watch HD video regardless even though I have VGA. As for HDCP, I don't really see why content protection/DRM has become a "feature".

i have the VGA version of this monitor - its great.

can someone tell me how to connect the Red & White audio cables (from XBOX 360 VGA Cable) to a pair of PC speakers?
i just have regular PC speakers with a green lineout cable that normally goes into my motherboard.

a link to the appropriate cable would be greatly appreciated :)

I hope this is still available tomorrow, I'll get it if it is.

Edit: Sod it, bought it now on the finance option. I've been wanting a 19" widescreen for a while, and as I'm upgrading the computer next month I want DVI.

Quidco at 4% too if I'm not mistaken.

I have the 22" version of this, that was on offer at dabs recently for £97. I would definitely recommend it - the picture quality is excellent, but admit the build could be better. Plenty of settings to play around with aside from the standard 4 pre-prepared modes (film/text etc).

If you can find the bigger ones on offer, even better still!

Also the 5ms response rate doesn't seem to be an issue at all (many LCDs have 2ms response now). I was playing the FEAR2 demo last night and it was smooth as anything at 1680 res with everything whacked on full.

Speakers in LCD monitors are appalling - you don't want them. Get a cheap pair of PC speakers instead.

At no point in the process did they say they were going to, just seemed like a regular online transaction. The first third comes out straight away then sets up dates for future payments.

Because some people will plug HD Sources directly into this thing, and in that case HDCP is required otherwise copyrighted content will not play. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

And DVI's "bit higher bandwith" correlates to better picture quality.

And on the issue of response time, most people will not notice motion blurring if the monitor has a response time of at least 8ms, so 5ms will be absolutely fine.
