Acer Predator G3 620 Gaming Desktop PC @ box.co.uk £749.99 delivered

DavnellDavnell

1st post, please be gentle...

Got this via email yesterday and have been going back and forth checking prices and information everywhere, finally took the plunge so let me know if that was a mistake!

I have seen this on a few websites for somewhere in the £648 mark but it seems to be out of stock on all of them and there is very little information anywhere, including the Acer website.

Box seem to be the only ones with any stock and from what I can tell it is a great price for the kit, I have configured it using the cheapest equivalent parts on pcpartpicker and it comes out over £800.

Called Acer pre sales and they confirm that this runs a 7200 HDD and 1600 mem

Epic machine let down only by the CPU having no Overclocking.

Although why you would ever need 24GB of RAM is beyond me.

Overkill in some areas with corners cut in others. Still, if you can afford it, this is pretty decent

not voting either way simply because

i dont understand why you wouldn't build you own? You learn a new skill you know exactly whats in your machine - 9 times out of 10 you'll have more upgradibility than a prebuilt and it's normally cheaper

It is a brave soul that posts a PC deal on hotukdeals.
Looks a good desktop to me so have some heat.
The company I used for my PC was Chillblast, great choice of machines that can be upgraded to your hearts content and very good after sales.

Not sure how Graphics Dedicated (Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 with 2GB Dedicated Memory) is classed as basic but thanks for the opinion.

As I said in the post, I cannot find the same parts cheaper

Thanks, I agree the 3570 would have been a better option but I can always upgrade at a later date I guess. The 24gb RAM is a bonus, never would have chose it that way :)

If you are voting cold please comment, I genuinely thought this was a good deal as I could not find the same or similar for the same price or cheaper. If there is a cheaper/same value model out there please let me know and I will cancel this one!

You will get cold on a deal because of the PC troll community on here. On the face of it it looks like a decent deal, my problem is with the stuff they don't tell you about - that is to say where they have cut corners to keep the build down. No self builder in their right mind will ever skimp on the mobo or PSU - but they don't provide details of what is being used, most likely something proprietary and nasty.

Personally i consider the best value pre-builts to still be Dell's XPS range. Buy one when on offer for circa £400 (without of any of the stupid upgrades at silly prices that dell offer) whack in an SSD and a mid range GPU @ £150 and you have a machine, that is reliable, upgradeable and £ for £ is a performance bargain.

If the price is low enough then anything will get hot - this basic (gaming?) box went hot

I think there is an element here that cant understand why anyone would pay a premium for a pc that they can game on?
    andreapedrazzini
keeping in mind you can't buy the parts separate by themselves, this is hot.
ALSO, I have 12GB of ram and I do get the occasional error saying my memory is full (no pagefile), so 24GB is pretty good!
