Cold - 30 day warranty

30 day warranty? It's as if they KNOW it is going to go wrong again soon!!!

If they want to sell refurbs, they need to have the honesty to incluide a full 12 month warranty.

COLD because of this only.

Hot price balanced out by big risk on the warranty. Not voting either way.

Purchased an Acer refurb quad core base from Dabs last year for £220. It died after 4 months and they wouldn't help.

Acer aren't the most reliable either so combining the Acer with a 30 day warranty = trouble.

+1

Acer models have faults, and even when they are known faults, Acer won't help.

I will never ever buy another Acer product due to the fact that they are shoddy, and the customer service is even worse. I've never had a CS rep shout at me before, but Acers did. And they just happened NOT to record that telephone conversation. Handy that, isn't it?

Cowboy company, I tells ya!

£211.50 is surely worth it even if it's just for the parts?

if motherboard fails, it is not :)

I used to work in pc repair, spent 2 years fixing things like this. If the fault is the hard drive or memory then great, it can be fixed. If its a motherboard though forget it, its a doorstop. Most cheap laptops are a single board design, and they are not easily interchangeable.

The cost of buying parts excluding the motherboard would be more than £211.50 :p

Why would you want them though? Which parts do you want, and what would you use them for? Add the price of a new motherboard and you could get a new lappy with warranty anyway.

bit of gamble given the limited warranty - i guess theyonly give a limited warranty for a reason instead of charging a few pound more and extending it to 6 months / 1 year
ie - they anticipate a lot will go kaput shortly after purchase

17" screen £90
160GB HDD £30
2GB SO-DIMM £20
DVD-DL writer £30
Battery £30
A/C adapter £20
WLAN card £15

No? ;-)

Not all screens work with all laptops
Batteries even more so!
Psu is again related to motherboard, many connectors are used
Ebuyer sell new laptops for 299

Is it really worth trying to use the parts?

Fair play mate, if its a good deal for you then go for it. Having stripped more laptops than I care to remember I've seen too many inconsistent parts to bother myself, like identical screen using different cables to connect to motherboards etc. Good luck, hopefully you'll get a good one and it wont matter.
