15.6" ULV thin and light with 512MB graphics, 8HR Battery and DVDr, again the downside is vista, but ok if you can get your hands on W7.

Usually the Achilles Heel of mobile computing, Acer have managed to blend new innovations within the Acer Aspire 5810TG, enabling you to achieve over 8 hours of battery life from a single charge.

Even the power adapter has been redesigned to be as energy efficient as possible. It consumes 66% less power in sleep mode and features an automatic power function stops it taking power when the battery is full, saving energy and stopping excessive heat build up in the battery pack. Ewww, processor lets it down greatly :(

the processor is probably the reason why the battery life is long

Hot for the price.

Currys have a dual core version with Windows 7, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, Intel Graphics for £427.49 using the code SPRING5 which comes to £414 after TopCashback. It’s a refurb but still has a 1 year warranty.

I don't think its particularly lightweight for a 15.6" laptop. A Vostro 3500 or Inspiron 1564 would weigh about the same, and they use proper CPUs rather than a ULV one. Good price though all the same.

The currys one has intel intergrated graphics though i know this one is not really gaming laptop but it will play quite lot of games with detail down a bit .The intel is quite a lot worse with games good laptop but not in the same league when it comes to gaming

Not bad for this price, the CPU is the down side but in general is very good.

CPU is absolutely fine for an ultraportable., its the only way to get decent battery life, this isn't a desktop replacement, its TDP is 5.5W, that's Atom territory but significantly faster.

Or you could opt for the more expensive macbook pro if you are after the power with the battery life...

Need a new laptop in this sort of category but very sceptical about Acer quality and reliability....one bad experience has put them way down my list of choice.

If it's an ultraportable you want have a look at the Asus UL30A - it's cheap, well built, 13.1" so a fair bit smaller and has over 8hrs battery like.

These Timelines are very well built looking at reviews though.

The benefit of the Asus is that it's about £325 with quidco from Carphonewarehouse and dual core (Celeron - but it's a C2D based Celeron so plenty quick).

This is a pretty good spec though with the discrete graphics, and 4GB RAM, only single core though.

There is no one answer to that as it depends on your requirements; portability, battery life, gaming, CPU performance etc
