anyone interested in these there are 2 in the big Kilmarnock store priced at £299 (on the shelf where the printers are). At £329 with Vista I'd say not a great buy, at £299 it's ok if you are in the market for a space saving unit - can't find a spec for teh monitor but I'm guessing it's nothing great.
After a big of digging it looks like it might be a 2.5" hard drive (5400rpm) and the monitor is 1366 x 768.

Good processor for the money.

Note: the cases on these are made of thin willowy plastic (the bottom memory card cover will last a month before snapping off I expect)
Also, obvious to some, upgrading the graphics card will be difficult due to the half heigt card and low power provided by the powersuplly.

Problaby worth a look at under £300 though.

I got a 5920G with Blu-Ray. Fab specifications and advised others to buy Acer products. Had endless problems and the same applies to everyone I know who bought Acer. Check out using Google. Type in the following words, including the + and the quotation marks

"Acer"+"problems"

There are 18,300,300 entries from owners trying to resolve problems. Mind you, only 27,200 of those entries are for Desk-Top computers, as they are mainly for Laptops. The only help you can get is from other owners and the Tech-heads who have fixed their friends Acer products. Acer support is worse than useless and batteries (which usually fail within 3 to 7 months) are NOT covered by their standard warranty. You dont find this out until AFTER you open up the box.

Personally I prefer this one from Tesco's

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.206-5251.aspx

Its only a dual core processor but for most user's, they won't notice a difference. You get more RAM, bigger hard drive and NVidia graphics (albeit a basic one)

Gotta say I've extensively used two Acer laptops and a monitor and never had any trouble with any of them. I do take pretty good care of my stuff though.

As you suggest, not relevant to this deal. Backed up by Which? surveys though.

I have two 5920G laptops. Both batteries died 6 months in. One laptop developed a mains connection fault, a week before the expiry of the warranty and a week before Xmas as well . Laptop was returned to Acer repair center, repaired and re-delivered back to me within 4 working days....so not a bad repair service on that side of things.

But the initial phonecall to Acer to ask for a warranty repair was a total nightmare, call center in India I think, operator couldn't speak English very well, and I had to press the 'hear again' collection details meassage upto 6 times to pick out the details of the repair address and courier details info!
Both Acer laptops are generally very reliable and I also try not to abuse them too much, but I will keep extending the warranties for peace of mind !
