This monitor confuses me.

24" monitors used to be 1980x1200 but recently they seem to be dropping them down to 1920x1080 for some valid reasons, having a resolution that matches the output of blu ray players and consoles like the PS3 avoids scaling issues inherent with a 1920 x 1200 16:10 screen.

However to produce a screen that is 1920x1080 but to omit a connection type that would make use of the sources that would benefit from this resolution doesn't seem to make sense, are we sure the details are right and that it doesn't have an hdmi or dvi connection?

according to acer website it has dvi, "Input signal * Analog or Dual Input (DVI w/HDCP)", "Enjoy a high connectivity level with protection of data transmission between difference devices thanks to DVI w/HDCP. " http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/product.do?link=oln85e.redirect&changedAlts=&CRC=600100215#wrAjaxHistory=0

No it doesn't, the X243hbd has DVI, this is the cut down version which is why it's cheaper. Notice the "d" or lack of it on the model number.

Even if this were hot Pixmania would make it cold. Expect a foreign plug. :-(

well the acer site doesnt really specify what the b or d means
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pi/25-1181748/Monitors/Acer-X243Hb-Black-Product-Info
http://en.kioskea.net/guide/details/1181748-acer-x243hb-black
specs here says dvi
i think the d model is for germany as google search for that model brings up german sites and d for duetcheland meaning germany. For those are intersted in buying best contact acer. And if you have bought it would be nice if you could give us some user reviews.
#13
worth noting in the spec is the localisation of this product is for spain so we need someone to access the spanish acer site and translate if its got only vga or not

I got 10quid voucher in email with dabs, went for them for 133 delivered - quidco.
The model dabs got stated DVI in the spec page, and its 'hbd' model. The model with DVI sold by oyyy and misco are also hbd. So in case I got the one with no DVI, I can return to them with the evidence of their own web page.
But careful with this one as its said VGA only on pixmania

Here's a non translated link to the model specification on Pixmania Spain.
It's still in Spanish but as you can see there is no DVI listed, only VGA. :)

Anyway I ordered a V243hbd , expected to arrive on monday or tuesday, will let you guys know about the ports on it.
The proper uk version comes with 3yrs warranty instead of 2.
#19
so the downsides are:
- vga only
- it might have a foreign plug

it is cheap though! :w00t:

hot i think

dont talk rubbish. how can it be when there is no audio input into the monitor. i have large monitors all with dvi and do not pay a television licence.
#21
This seems to be Pixmanias DVI version of the OP's original VGA only model :)
They have added a Q in their model number just to confuse us.
It's only 5ms though!

I had to vote cold. Good price but as its from pixmania it could half that and I still wouldn't be tempted. An absolutely terrible company to deal with

Not rubbish. Maybe actually know what you are talking about before you shoot someone down?

http://www.dvd-recordable.org/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1100&theme=Printer

It's not a case of paying a TV license. It's that all monitors with DVI built outside the EU have import tax added as they are classed as a video monitor. As that pushes up the price, lots of manufacturers build VGA only monitors, which is why they are always quite a bit cheaper :)

Tony was spot on.

Yea i'll be getting one if it has HDMI/DVI as well.

Confirmed on acer.es

X243Hb
24"Wide, 16:9 FHD, 2ms 40000:1 TCO03 Black euro/UK power cord EMEA (Adaptive Contrast Management + Acer eDisplay Management)
Part NumberET.FX3HE.001

X243Hbd
24"Wide, 16:9 FHD, 2 ms 40'000:1, DVI w/HDCP TCO03 Black euro/UK EMEA (Adaptive Contrast Management + Acer eDisplay Management)
Part NumberET.FX3HE.003

Detailed spec (e.g. angles, pixel pitches etc) are all exactly same tho

Conclusion: the hb model definately not have DVI port nor does it have HDCP, id say go for hbd for whatever extra cost, avoid this

Personally I went for V243Hbd, available here
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/422115/acer-24-widescreen-v243hbd-2ms-dvi-/
its actually 143.64+del - quidco at the mo, or u can wait a few days with misco or oyyy to stock up if u really hate dabs.

thanks for clearing that up. so u guys think this is a bad deal due to lack of dvi? i think its a good deal still due to price. but if i was buying a monitor id go for a higher spec model like this one http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/422115/acer-24-widescreen-v243hbd-2ms-dvi-/

personally i think its a cracking deal, if u are simply after a monitor, so often we are forced to pay for gadgets we will never use its nice to see an instance where that does not hold true.

anybody else ordered one?

i managed to find one positive user review http://www.idealo.co.uk/reviews/1431492/acer-x243hb.html
