Fantastic deal. You will see that the price is 269 - that is because I have added an extra thirty pounds on for the one year warranty otherwise it is three months. Either way this is a great deal as the PC would be good value on its own as a quad core machine with dedicated graphics and you also get the Monitor.

9650 Quad Core was the the 1st generation which comes with problems, am I correct?
#3
Not sure. Looked it up and costs around one hundred pounds.

Can't believe this is not hotter to be honest

Probably because it comes with vista and is possible pre-used.

BARGAIN ALERT... buying this now for my sister... X-mas present sorted already i think... just give it a quick test when i receive and that will do!!!

Good price for a basic home computer. Note that it comes with Vista and I believe it's out of the qualifying time for a free Windows 7 upgrade.

Looks hot, if there is any suspicion about the processor buy the warranty and keep checking the temperature, i had my AMD replaced because it was running too hot. There is a good chance these are faulty returns? Guaranteed they won't have fixed the basic problem, just got them working and flogged them on.

As a side note I should have listened to everyone who told me the build quality on acer notebooks was pants, mine has gone away today and the delivery man from DHL told me they pick them up for warranty repairs every day!

Don't know if their desktops are any better.

Basic? Bit more than basic surely with any model of quad core processor. Im running a 1.6 C2D with intel graphics and that runs 1080p videos fine let alone anything else, i regularly use photoshop/browse the internet at the same time and it doesn't falter. I can only imagine this thing flys...

No the XX50 editions are B3 which had the TLB bug fixed.
#11
Just googled AMD Phenom 9650 problems....... brings up a lot of responses!
#12
doesn't everything you buy supposed to have 12 month warranty anyway?? or am i wrong?
#13
Quad core AMD

Quad core Intel

Totally different things. You'd be better off with a dual core duo of ANY speed than the fastest AMD quadcore.

Doubt it.

Your graphics card must be doing the decoding then.

No processor running that speed can decode 1080p video without stuttering on its own/.

I have an Acer Timeline 11" laptop for about half a year now, but it hasn't given me any problems. Been carrying it around alot and using it about 8 hours a day hooked up to a monitor at work or on the go. Maybe its just certain lines that had bad build, my Aspire Timeline laptop has been fine so far and looks quite solid.

12 months is the standard adopted by most major sellers as fair, however there is actually no legal standard, it is just what is reasonable. It is quite common for refurbished goods to have a 3 month warranty. I just bought a refurbished media player off ebuyer with 3 month warranty.
#17
I'm pretty sure its against UK consumer rights to say something has only 3 months warranty. Everything should have 12 months and even then they should still repair within a reasonable amount of time

I agreee.

Swap out the power supply and shove in a GTS250 at £100 and you've got yourself a midrange gaming PC for £400. Albeit, it's the same price to build your own with better quality components, but still, decent.

I think it's 12 months if it's new, doesn't have to have any warranty if it's refurbished?
#21
Great price, shame about Vista, but still a bargain for the specs!
#22
i thought i heard something about it should last a ''reasonable length of time'' problem is we don't know how old the desktop actually is, or should it be from when we receive it... if we pay £300 for it, how long would all you guys on here expect it to last?

It's not new though, it's a grade A so it's either repaired / returned / box damaged etc, so possibly the original warranty is void and therefore can be sold with a 3 month warranty.

4 days average turn around for collect and return repairs. Not bad in my opinion.

ditto. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/c_goods.pdf 1 page down
also if you do get the warranty , I think you have a consumer right to get a full refund within 45 days if you haven't made a claim.
#30
I wouldnt of bothered with the extra £30 your statatory rights give you more guarantee than that. Id still be returning after 12 months if it broke.

Once out of warranty you would have little chance of getting a positive result.
#32
is the cheapest delivery option a tenner then? on their delivery info section, it says free within 10 days!
#33
Please take into account that it comes with a monitor which must be worth about sixty pounds. I would be very surprised if this could be built for that price range. I am not saying that it is perfect, if you want perfect, spend around five hundred. But I think that it is damm good.

Laptops Direct have the same (same company) so if you buy it from them you can go through Quidco to save 2%

This processor

AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core 2639 156 (want high for first, low for second)

Intel Core Duo T2700 @ 2.33GHz 1144 418 NA NA

So factually wrong to state that duo core is better

No need to get in a battle defending your deal. I think we are all in agreement that it's a good buy for under £300, but you can't expect everyone to go crazy for it, mainly (in my opinion) because it's not new, doesn't have a keyboard or mouse and comes with Vista. It'a the right price for what it is.
