AO.com says it has an IPS screen plus they also price match So you can further knock £40 off bringing it to £724.99. Won't find anything cheaper. HOT

Going to weigh in on this - good deal. I don't know where the dislike is coming from, personally I think it is well rounded spec wise and going to be the best value in this price range really. Look at it this way - 7300 - low to mid range quad core cpu, 8gb - middle tier amount of good speed ram, low to middle tier dedicated gpu, ok main storage and has a adequate sized ssd which considering prices for them recently is a great addition at the moment. Only letdown really is the screen, a continuing feature with lots of acer laptops, but it's not awful.

Overall I think it is a great deal. There is no single component this is disproportionately powerful compared to the rest of the machine, and decent value overall. How it looks...guess that is up to you. In conclusion - heat added.

What would you recommend for mobile gaming at £750 that would do 1080p at a solid 60fps?
For the price this is a good machine, I doubt you will find better at £750. Just don't expect anything more than 1080/30 gaming at medium settings on modern games.

If I was after a "gaming laptop" I would spend a little more and get atleast a 1060, which is over twice as fast 4.0 TFLOPS Vs 1.8 TFLOPS.
What would you recommend for mobile gaming at £750 that would do 1080p at a solid 60fps?

GTX 1050 is a low end GPU. I certainly wouldn't call it a gaming laptop. You want atleast a 1060 for 1080p gaming.
While i like high end hardware not everyone wants to game in ultra/1440p/4k ect their is a market for this
A 1050 can't even do 1080/60 at medium graphics on new games https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1050-Notebook.178614.0.html
I would expect atleast this on a "Gaming" laptop.

Not sure why Acer is getting so much hate? I have been using the same Acer laptop (Acer Aspire 5750G) since 2012 with no problems.
ME TOO! My 7730G from april 2009 still working fine!
Had HP but when fan broke after 1 day I have sent it back (never ever).
Read about Dell that has crap build like HP so ACER is the only choice.
Both codes mentioned in this thread are not valid when I tried to use them.

This is only complement of a "thing"

Not just external hard drive. Price is a little higher for a purpose.

Just a brief visualization:

Acer is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I placed this order with 4 year insurance but then cancelled it pretty much instantly because I decided to go for the HP. I received and email from Acer saying your order has been cancelled. Fine. Then when I checked my credit card couple of days later my card had still been charged even though order online said cancelled. Then I got in touch with Acer and they said not sure why that happen. Will email manager for refund. Couple of days past and nothing. Called again and they said we will send email again and it will take a couple of working days. So anyway today I checked again and money for laptop was refunded but not the money for the insurance. I called again and she said same thing. I will email manager but we don't normally refund insurance. How ridiculous. How can they charge me for something that was cancelled and I never received. I'm fuming.
Arrived this afternoon. I can confirm that it's definitely FHD. The brushed aluminium cover looks good. The keyboard layout not so good, especially the Enter and left Shift keys are too small.

Will need more time to see how it goes.
Laptop arrived yesterday, will boot it up today.

Received an email from Acer saying it is being delivered by DHL from Poland. I've checked the DHL website and it says the shipment will be delivered onFriday evening.
Really surprised it is being sent from Poland, thought it is UK stock.
I cancelled my order and it is showing as cancelled on the website. I didn't receive an email from Acer but I got a text from dhl that my parcel will be delivered Friday. I checked my credit card and it has been charged. I am not happy at all. Gonna call them to see what's happening

Just make sure you dont accept delivery then DHL will have to ship it back to Poland or where ever they are based.

Its a desktop replacement not a dedicated gaming rig...jeez!
For the casual gamer it would be fine but yes you are right it won't beat a £1000+ dedicated gaming rig. Price wise, find me a better deal for the same spec...
I think if you're replacing even an old-ish desktop with this, you might not see the performance bump you'd hope for.

Benchmark wise 7200u is comparable (slightly better than) say an i3-3250, which came out in 2013. I'm running an AMD FX-6300, which is about 4 years old, but a lot more powerful than a 7200u.

An important point is that 7200u use just 15W, compared to 55W for the i3 and 95W for my old 6300. And so if you want a laptop, this is decent. If not and you prefer performance, then get a desktop. :)

would rather have a decent desktop for a little bit more and easily upgradeable over time.

My first thought when I saw the GTX 950 is how quickly could I replace it with something better, too. The power supply, as far as I could see on Youtube, is a Lite-On 500 watt model with two six pin plugs for graphics cards. It looks like there was a bit of effort on the cable management front, quite tidy, but the very plain looking M-ATX format motherboard and unfinished metal of the case internals are a good reason not to have a window on the side of the case, I think! I'm sure it's all fine. The motherboard appears to max out at 64GB of DDR4 memory. A single 8GB stick is fitted.
Comes with an OS called FreeDOS. (Those were the days)
£579.99 with windows 10 home.
I was trying to work out how they were selling this at such a low price then I realised it doesn't include windows. Still a great buy though 8)
For the price this PC is quite good. Compared to a lot of other 'gaming PCs' out there lol. For £500 some websites are selling Intel Pentium/i3 processors and a basic graphics card.

Here is a performance review of this specific model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20AlPXJvlwM

If you're quick you can still get the Dell 15 7000 gaming laptop with the 960m for about £650 at the end if the top cash back tracks which is what I just bought, ends today. Otherwise I don't have a better suggestion right this second that meets all your needs but I think there's a bit of a lack of good offers generally right for this moment if I'm honest, so I'd bide your time

I bought this laptop after seeing this post because I had been searching for a while for a laptop that had 8 GB RAM, SSD storage, Full HD, i5-6200u (what they recommend for photography). Thanks for posting this I am so pleased with it. It even has a back-lit keyboard and aluminum cover. I also have a DSLR and I am beginner at Photography and I think this laptop will be perfect for me. I was looking at the Apple Macbook Pro 15 inch (starting at £1599) and I think getting this has saved me a lot of money.

you can use an external hard drive (1tb around £50ish) or even memory sticks, all connect by usb.

Thanks. If you need an external one, why not just build one in? Seems strange to me... must be getting too old. Lol.

I thought IPS screens were terrible for gaming, is this true?
I would of been interested if it wasn't true but the price has gone up £50 anyway.
No, not at all.

TN displays do have better G2G times(basically motion clarity), but it's not significant. I would never, ever trade IPS color reproduction for a very minor improvement in motion clarity, but that's my own preference. Some people might be sticklers for that sort of thing.

Not a gaming monitor really and has no brightness.
I'd say if you play games <10% of the time you use the PC that it's probably ok.
A proper gaming monitor will be 144Hz of sync locked 60Hz. £200+
That makes my head hurt.
Sorry for the jargon mate.
Basically the big thing is the refresh rate, think of it like a flick-book this one has a picture on every 4th page, a gaming monitor has a picture on every page so the transition from a blank page to the completed picture will be much smoother.
A gaming monitor I'd recommend would be Benq XL2411Z, XL2420Z or XL2430T.
It should also of said 144hz or sync (gsync/freesync) locked 60hz.

That was an ace explanation of refresh rate dude! Are you a teacher??

TIL all people who are good at explaining something as banal as refresh rates are probably a teacher
thank you ordered one
It's a gaming monitor if your gaming is from consoles.

seems good price for specs, i have never seen an acer phone though, so could someone please tell me how these compare to the likes of samsung/nokia ect in terms of build quality, signal reception, overall use?
As mentioned above, I have a Liquid E2. Like the E3 it is made of plastic but feels solid and is fairly well built. There are quite a few reviews of the Liquid E3 on the net (but not the Duo plus, although structure etc will be the same) so if you aren't sure about Acer, check them out. I think EE also have the non plus version on contract so you could check one of their shops if you want to have a feel of it.

Think this was ready posted last night ... As the Moto G killer lol

i humbly admit to it being me that posted it, wrongly as lte. but, admit it, if it HAD been 4g it would have kicked the moto in the nuts...

If 4G isn't essential, this does look like a better phone.

not as long as tesco reign over the kingdom like a smack dealer doling out cheapies to encourage users into their stinky, pee-stained mattress of a den...

thank god waitrose don't go low-end!

Don't really understand that. I have a £7.50 monthly contract with Tesco (using my current Liquid E2), but you need to be on a £10+ per month contract for them to throw in 4G.

just meant that tesco's moto g deal is hard to beat, what with their ability to aggressively cut their margins beyond most.

This seems like a fairly good deal to me for a mid-range smartphone. I personally like using dual SIM phones for their flexibility, and it's probably only the Lenovo imports that can compare in terms of dual SIM phones in this price range, unless anyone else knows of any others?

I think I might hold out for a price drop to something like £120 - £140 - the likes of Expansys tend to pick up on Acer phones and may have deals like this closer to the end of 2014 or early 2015. It's just a shame that it doesn't support 4G, for forwards compatibility, but that isn't a real issue for me at this point in time.

Cubot X6 around £130 compare with 17401 score for Moto G

hi corred1964, the screen shots show IMEI number, if it is your phone better hide those numbers.

No it's not....I don't have one :-) Thanks though

The Cubot looks promising - will do some more research...

If you want something bigger there is also the 5.5" Cubot S222 which is also dual sim, IPS OGS display & a very impressive ANTUTU score of over 17000 similar to the MotoG with 16Gb memory & 1Gb RAM for around the same price
