"Gaming" hahahahahahahahaha

It will handle quite a lot of games, if you gaming on a laptop then I don't expect you would playing any 'hardcore' games that would need powerful graphics and if you are you might as well get a desktop and cheap notebook

Really Cold mate. My best suggestion for you in price range of £740 is to buy one of Dell Inspiron link posted below :http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/7559-8045-Dell-Inspiron-15-7000_1856981.html
Worth buying. Got one of these myself which is way better then the post above.

I happened to get a similar Acer, though the 17 inch model, Acer VN7-792G-79LX Black Edition (4gb Nvidia, PCIe SSD slot). You haven't gotten the Acer, same way I haven't gotten the Dell, the conclusion that the Dell is much better than the Acer is likely subjective.

Some plus points of this Acer over the Dell
+It has a USB Type C port
+It is DDR4 ram
+It is lighter
+A longer battery life (I can attest to this as I can actually exceed the manufacturers stated life for my model when doing something simple like programming)

Plus points of Dell
+The 4GB 960m (vs 2gb 960m for the Acer)

They both have backlit keyboards, HDMI, ac WiFi, dual fans. Despite the specs on the Acer, a reviewer on the Littlewoods site says it doesn't have an optical drive. So I'll score both as no optical drive.

T3chnoGuy, feel free to post any advantages of the Dell over the Acer that I have missed. Thanks.

If it was a 980M graphics card you'd be looking at a red-hot bargain.. but it's the 960m :(
Like they're going to put a 980m in a laptop this price... or even the 970m for that matter...

Please don't bother with this. I managed to get a full speed i5 brand new from dell recently 8gb ram, 1tb hard drive with 2gb dedicated graphics. much better screen quality d
too. just get yourself the dell 10% off code. The E series of Acer is so plastic and cheap

from the outlet or the normal site?
My Acer aspire 5742 (i5) is mint
What is it with Acer PCs? They usually get good reviews in PC mags and websites? Their specs look relatively good on paper, but in reality, they are pieces of turd!

I've had three different models, and all didn't last very long! :(

Can these run openelec now or is it still not possible?
Nice find and a nice box of tricks. This is my media player running XBMC under Win7. It's attached to the back of the screen and is controlled by a cheap mouse and keyboard for when the cheap remote needs too many key presses - updates and the like.
These have a bug with the Intel drivers on certain Linux distros so you won't get hardware acceleration.

If you want a Linux solution I'd go for an Nvidia.
Can anyone comment if these are any good as an XBMC client. Currently using a Raspi and wondering if this was better.
Yes but the acerdirect one has the dvdrw and windows 8 for just £35 quid more

Damn missed this one. GOOD price for this laptop. i7 is fun.
Type your comment here...Be wary of Acer refurb laptops. We had a brand new one for 18 months and after 4 major repairs they agreed to exchange for a refurb model. When that arrived it had a hard drive fault that was recognisable as soon as started loading. Had asked for it to be double checked after the problems we had had with the brand new one and it still came with a major fault.
OOS anyway

Refurbished...3 months warranty...

hmmm...think it's a tad more logical to spend a bit more money and get a brand new one with sensible 2 year + warranty somehow.
Id be wary with only 3 months, my packard bell tx86 packed up in under a year, hard drive failure, though its done 2 years since it had the hard was replaced ( partision this time) (though i dont know what the original hard drive was it has a WD one now)

COLD - an Acer refurb with only a 3 month guarantee - says it all really.

not sure if you're trolling... I already mentioned about chilling out over 3 month guarantee in the actual OP so take it or leave it.

For those who want a 2nd gen i3 I challenge anyone to find one cheaper refurb and in stock so compare like for like and not to the 1 year guarantees... there is where it's a deal... and if you do find one make sure it's 2nd gen i3 and not first gen.

Are you trolling? Posting a deal and telling us not to vote considering the condition, warranty , brand or retailer?

Just to put a price on the one year warranty; acerdirect charge £29.95 to extend the warranty to 1 year => price with a 1 year warranty = £318.95 + £4.97 (standard delivery)

You can convert it from a conventional laptop into fully-functional tablet PC, perfect for the demanding work environment. Is there a docking keyboard for this then?
There is a £50 docking station on Amazon but it turns out to be for the a500, I think that's the android version which has a bespoke connection

Has HDMI out, according to Q&A on the site. I have a similar spec Aspire "Timeline" that I paid £50 more for on Argos eBay, also a refurb, that I bought specifically for the long battery life. Can't find any battery life info on this one though.

is it really that difficult to google a review?

Perhaps I should have said I can't find it on the site linked. And actually, there are several different models variations with that "model" number (some with i5 processor), so not so easy to find info that you can be confident is about the machine on offer. I am still looking for more details, and found a better alternative (same "model" but different features) on that site. The "Timeline" variants are designed to optimise battery life.

Edited By: LongPockets on Aug 01, 2012 10:57: 00
Yike! Also available in red at the same price, with 4gB and 750gB hard drive: HERE (same site).

I don't post deals any more, so if someone else wants to post this one, feel free.

Edit- someone has now bought the red one- no more stock.

I buy and sell computer and printer spares and would not touch acer with yours. But this is a good price for a Grade A packard bell 24inch monitor. Could sell for more. The site states they can delivery on Tuesday if ordered before 3.45pm cut off Monday.
Acer are a well organised responsible UK based company. Unsubstantiated slurs are inaccurate. I've found Acer UK Customer Service to be excellent and their rapid repair facility as good as is offered anywhere and significantly better than most.

Having said that this is a separate company called Acer Direct which is selling non-Acer products.

worth a buy?, wondering if this website and sellers are legit and worth buying off?

need two new monitors these look like they will do the job :)
I think this will be the maestro as in the title. A quick look at the site reveals that the descriptions are screwed up for all of the screens they have available....unless of course all the descriptions are correct and the titles are wrong!
um yes would be very displeased to receive the maestro over the viseo as for me would only want it for hdmi
"Now hold on a cotton pickin' minute there Musky ...."

Which PB Maestro 230 monitor is it? The one in the OP or the one in the first comment?

Also confused by comments on Acer's site about Viseo rather than Maestro ?????

Not direct from Acer , part of BUY IT DIRECT GROUP , not the best company to deal with imho, i ordered a laptop and had to get my money back via the bank as it was never delivered, and i must have phoned (premium number aswell) them approx 10 times over 2 weeks and each time they said how great there company was ith dealing with problems etc ect ...and a manager would ring me back ...never had 1 phone call back .
Dont know then as the model number on it is "S220HQL bd"

No A, just a space
Axeboy
Its VGA and DVI
Either they've posted the wrong model number or you got lucky. The S220HQL shouldn't have DVI, you must have been sent a S220HQLAbd
Gutted, missed it.

Good options for vostro desktops if you look on dell business site.

Also dell outlet is a huge source of Refurbished bargains with proper warranties!

The dell one around the same price has less memory and a smaller hard drive and basic keyboard + £19.00 postage.
No quidco on Dell outlet .
I don't need a mouse, speakers or a 12 month warranty so its fine for me and I am happy with the spec but I understand that it may not be suitable for everyone
