Decent set of speakers that were a favourite from eBuyer a few months ago too.
#4
Prefer something a little subtler (OK, you can all stop laughing now!!?!?) but it's a decent bit of kit for the money (so heated).

Forget about looks! Sounds?

that link aint working, could these just plug straight into a tv with out the need for an amp etc ? My mum needs a set of speakers for her flat screen tv but dosent have a stereo or amp in the living room.
#7
they have a built in amp, and for the money the sound is pretty good! a little quiet on the output from my tv, but i hooked up my walkman phone and it was bloody amazing...for the money!
#8
How much were these at Ebuyer before?
And does ebuyer still sell them?

Thank you :)
#9
ebuyer i think were £24.99 not including delivery. and were silver or beech in colour?
#11

Goodmans....are my eyes deceiving me....Goodmans usually make cheap tat, i learnt my lesson the hard way,i have owned about 5 goodmans home/car stereos over the years and they all ended up with one fault or another after a year or two so im not big on goodmans, saying that these look like a good deal for the money but i would probably take a look at the richersounds website to see what i could get for the same money, probably some speakers that sound better but dont look as good as these.... dont let me put you off as its not a lot of money ..;-)
#13
these are cheap, goodmans have stuck to their reputation. The first set i received was basicly "dead on arrival", the volume knob was badly glued on, and was loose. The speakers wouldn't turn on until a few minutes after. Anyway sent them back got a second pair.
They worked fine however a few days ago someone pulled the extention power lead and the speaker fell on its back (just as it would if you pulled the power cord slowly), and broke immediatly. No damage to be seen, so i don't know what is broken, it just won't turn on.

having said that, if you won't be moving them around, they are worth the money if you get a good pair.
#14
well i gotta say, i looked over mine carefully. they are solid and well made. maybe i got a good set. but they were sealed direct from goodmans and not a probable returned set bought from another web site. dont take my word for it though. read about them and make your own choice. but the heat speaks :)
#15
ive got a few goodmans things and ive had no probs...well with my mini-hifi the opening mechanism became a bit tempremental, but i had had it for a good few years, maybe 5 or 6, without any probs previous so it was its way of saying get a new one

Around 20 years ago, I bought a Goodmans Tape to Tape cassette recorder. Total pile of junk, did not record properly with the sound distorted. Never bought Goodmans again after that.

Goodmans are another spin off brand of the alba group. Same as Bush, Dirt Devil, Roadstar, Grundig, Breville and numerous others. Basically they import goods from numerous companies which are rebranded for them. The quality is dependant on the original product quality and not related to any quality process by alba. For example vestel sets which have been sold under the bush, goodmans, grundig and alba brands are obviously equal in quality to the same vestel models rebranded by jvc, toshiba, matsui, proline, sharp, hitachi etc. You can not judge a Goodmans product fairly just by the fact its goodmans branded.

I remember the highly rated Toshiba 330 dvd player. The magazines raved about it and hifi stores highly recommended it but everyone I knew who bought one including myself thought it was junk. It had many problems with discs, stuttering and I demonstrated to numerous people the poor quality of its output compared to a cheap compacks dvd player using my projector. Absolute junk which was made for Toshiba by a low cost chinese manufacturer using an all chinese/taiwanese chipset by mediatek. There was really nothing japanese about the player at all except the brand. Not only that but it got exceptionally hot. Nowadays performance, build quality and brand and not as related as you think unless you buy top of the range gear.

Good deal. Voted hot.

they look really ugly, sorry!
#21
Good price if you need something cheap and cheerful (and ugly IMO). Don't expect miracles, but for 40 quid you can't moan. Good find.
#22
i bought mission speakers from richer sounds which were good but also bought aural envelope speakers which were crap so be careful

Goodmans used to make excellent speakers, actually in the UK!
#25
Ok, so if some of us are a little iffy about going with Goodmans, what alternatives are around that might be BETTER for, say, under £100?
#26
can you plug an Ipod into these????

can you plug an Ipod into these????

i have a 2 phono to headphone jack adapter, so with one of those anything with a headphone socket can be plugged in.
#29
How could anyone bear to have those in their living space?

Thats the same as many old british AV brands though. I think the original Goodmans went bankrupt and alba bought the brand name. They did the same for Bush and the german company Grundig presumably to give them good access and acceptability in the german market. While Alba is a british company generally its chinese companies that buy up famous british or european brands to resell their lowish quality products. Vax, Kef, Dual and I'm sure many others have been swallowed up by the chinese. They also buy japanese bankrupt brands like Teac and Nakamichi. I think the akai brand was sold to a dutch company.

What annoys me most is when companies like Denon rebrand chinese cheapies but sell them at fairly highish prices which is what they do with their entry level products. They simply put a basic chinese dvd player in a better quality case and charge six times as much for it.
#31
just ordered, voted hot, i think they look sexy as hell!
#32
Ug-lee!
#33
So.....for anyone that ordered these speakers a couple of weeks ago - have they now arrived?

And what do you make of them - looks, and sound?

Would be interested to know as I MIGHT buy some - but always go on recommendation..
#34
Is this link dead for anyone else??

I would really like these but cannot find them on the goodmansdirect website or through the link provided. :-(
