1980's KINGS OF THE WILD FRONTIER was actually the second Adam and the Ants record, preceded by postpunk indie album DIRK WEARS WHITE SOX, recorded with the musicians who later became Bow Wow Wow. However, it became a massive commercial breakthrough and one of the defining albums of early '80s British chart pop. Mixing the sort of booming double-drummer rhythms that had popularized years before with a certain post-postpunk cynicism and a remarkable flair for self-mythology, Adam Ant (born Stuart Goddard) and his cohorts, led by ex-Banshees guitarist Marco Pirroni and producer/drummer Chris Hughes, created a bubblegum-pop gem on the same level as the early albums by The Sweet and the Bay City Rollers (which is meant as a compliment). Led by the classic single "Antmusic", the album also features the pounding "Physical (You're So)", and several other goofy gems.

1.Dog Eat Dog
2.Antmusic

14.Los Rancheros (demo)
15.Human Beings (demo)

I am currently wearing this: http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/452/adamdontlike.jpg

Though as I got an infraction, I'm shying away from voting on any mod's posts now.

Adam was a good songwriter on his own (but brilliant with Marco too). Their punk stuff was (mainly) pretty brilliant too. Hope he's feeling healthier and happier than recent times.

By the way, these "punk" era Adam And The Ants t-shirts were all designed and drawn by Adam! I had some of the punk stuff at the tender age of 10/11 upwards and it made my parents very concerned. :D

I'm just struggling with the idea that any album with a song like "the day i met god" can be dismissed as unremarkable.

Yes, I'm a bit miffed that Kings is described as "bubblegum pop", Dog Eat Dog and Kings Of The Wild Frontier are anything but. I suppose Adam did pander to the kid's audience further on but he still maintained his sexual edge. My mum threw out my "Strip" poster which had a few risque poses!

"Rubber People", "Bathroom Function", "Hampstead", "Deutscher Girls", and the first album were all great. To me, anyway. And Adam always looks/ed spectacular, great genes I think.

I used to play "Cleopatra" quite innocently on vinyl and had no idea what it was about. :|

louiselouise,

A few posts have been removed as deemed off topic. However we don't want to be seen as censoring member opinions. If you have a general comment regarding 'censorship'/mod actions - please do continue it in your feedback thread.

If it's a specific complaint regarding a mod, then you'll have to use the Contact Us option in order for admin(s) to review.

Meanwhile, and back on topic, not a bad deal at all. Although I don't buy any cd's myself nowadays, instead relying on the digital download options.

Andy is "alright" LL - all the mods are. Take a chill pill.

Great CD - takes me back to me younger carefree days! Like ASB though I dont buy cd's anymore - they are all up in the loft next to the vinyls (Shakin Stevens included!)

I am chilled bb, you've obviously not had innocent comments deleted and rude replies! I used Contact Us and heard nothing..Anyway, going out now. I'll stay away from HUKD for a while.

It's not just me, a few members have said the same, though my link got removed. I've no problems with the other mods, and aScottishBloke gets +1 for at least not ignoring me!

Bipolar, has made him madhttp://www.portsmouth.co.uk/newshome/Adam-Ant-39living-in-fear39.6291926.jp
Wondered who you meant for a minute ;)

And I don't think he's "mad", he's ill, and has episodes, but it doesn't detract from the fact he's a talented and intelligent man.

I take offense at the notion that Dirk wears white sox was unremarkable! Cartrouble is an absolute gem. Was Xerox on there aswell? My memory permits I cant recall.

That said, Killer in the home on this LP is lovely :)

Peace!

Cleopatra
Did ten thousand
In her lifetime
Now
That's a widemouth

Cleopatra
Gave a service
With a smile
Oh

She was a
Widemouthed girl
A widemouthed girl

Cleopatra
Did a hundred (100)
Roman centurion
For afterdinner mints

Cleopatra
Used a suction
Oh so unheard of

She was a
Widemouthed girl
A widemouthed girl
Believe it

Show me a bigger mouth
Show me a bigger mouth
Show me a bigger mouth
Show me a bigger mouth
Yeah

What a weak distorted image
Elizabeth and Richard
Gave upon the screen
Of that

Widemouthed girl
Widemouthed girl

Are as far as I can remember the lyrics

Unremarkable?? 'Dirk' was fantastic. Listening to 'The day i met god' aged 10. 'Cleopatra', 'Car Trouble' and 'Catholic Day'', ahhh fantastic, even now. Xerox' wasnt on the original album btw.
