THis was previously sold for over £100 and is a very good freeview HD box.

Just gone out of stock online but i was in store and they had plenty marked up at £50

I bought one and i have to say it is a really nice HD set top box , it also has BBC IPLAYER with BBC HD on Iplayer and it has a slot in the front to subscribe to Sky Sports and ESPN.

Can't find a price like this anywhere so please vote on the price for this unit and its features.

What's the SD picture quality like? We've got a Sony EX403 with its own Freeview HD tuner and a separate Digital Stream Freeview HD box and while both have excellent HD picture quality (as you would expect), the SD PQ is decidedly inferior to the picture via scart from my aged Pace Twin. There's not really much content on HD yet, so SD PQ is still important in our household. So, any comment on SD PQ would be welcome.

I did a bit of research on this product and it comes froma company CALLED ADB who seems to make boxes for big companies worldwide - however i too have a sony with freeview hd and the sd picture is not great - this is far superior and the menu interface is quick also - an alternative for me to sky as all i seem to watch is freeview channels and a bit of sport so i am really happy with this and this price

When you use the EPG, does the currently viewed channel remain visible in the corner of the screen? Essential when wanting to see what else is on while still watching the current programme.

Even better the epg sits over the current programme so you never come off the channel and also you can view all settings without coming off the current channel. I have also noticed on the back that it has a USB slot oh and i got a free HDMI cable in the box.

This is a great price if you can pick one up.

They were on sale in one of the Aldi Sepcial Buys in March/April for £79.

You don't indicate why so that largely negates the validity of your post.

Think title should be ADB i-CAN Easy....... Company is ADB, model is i-CAN
#9
says it's discontinued

Shouldn't be expired - Available in store

Looks good, is much in HD currently on Freeview HD ?

It got a good reveiw when The Register reviewed FreeviewHD STBs about a year ago ... I think had it been actually available I might have bought one for the WC - having iPlayer access as well was an added bonus. However as it didn;t seem to be on sale then I stuck with SD (and as we're not into mega-TVs it wasn't much of an issue). Also no real need now as we've got HD via VM-TiVo.

However, at £50 this does seem to be a good deal if you need a FV-HD STB

can anyone recommend a good indoor aerial to use with this?
#14
don't think any indoor one would be decent...

the company I work for sold this.... he're a snippet of some of the reviews:

"as soon as the unit arrived i got it out of the box and set it up on my 40" sony 1080p tv, once it had sorted itself out i was very dissapointed, the sound on HD was breaking up- ok on SD, the volume on HD was so low i had to turn the TV volume up nearly double, it also froze up on me 3 times over the next 2 weeks, the picture wasn't that much different on HD to SD and also as others have said in there reviews the subtitles are realy annoying and on HD there wasn't any Dolby Surround sound being transmitted, overall it isn't worth the money being asked for it, i wouldn't recommend it to anybody so in the end i sent it back today."

"I have built-in Freeview in my Sony LCD TV and that found every channel and picture/sound quality is perfect. Bought this for the HD and iPlayer.
This unit was unable to find all the channels
Location was stuck at 'Highlands & Islands' - I'm in central Scotland so why it assumed that I have no idea and would not allow me to change to any other location.
Troubleshooting in manual is abysmal
Subtitles kept switching on with every channel change
Picture size kept changing with each channel change even though I told it everytime it was widescreen!
Picture quality was poor on the channels I could get
Overall a complete waste of space and I bet we don't see it again"

"Very disappointed with this item. Cannot pick up lots of channels that I can on my LG TV. I have to have the sound on my TV up to 30 instead of about 8, which deafens me when I go back to the TV. Cannot get the remote control to work my TV as in the manual, by trying the 4 numbers given or the manual steps. For these reasons I will be returning the item."

It had a 45% return rate. Want any more?

I think you need to get your Sony TV fixed. Mine is perfect on HD and SD!

I have purchased two of these units @ £50 and I'm very pleased with them. Build quality is excellent, as are Freeview HD images. iPlayer works well, also including HD streaming and Radio options. Recommended!
Please unexpire - still available instore at some Tescos.
I hope these units are not being discontinued in the UK? (Still available at Currys only)

Hmm, Tried to submit a reply but was told it was to be moderated first.
( Probably because I put a weblink in the reply )
Firmware update for this unit at "link" below. Click on help tab on webpage for instructions.
( It uses a USB data stick for the update )
www dot i-can dot tv/?ct=uk&lang=uk

Perhaps someone with this unit who is in a FreeviewHD area and/or has a 5.1 surround sound setup could respond with any changes ? :)

what store had stock? :)

Slightly Off topic i have the VM-TiVo and its a little annoying issue i wondered if its the same for you, when i rewind or fast forward a recording when i press play it jumps back around 15 seconds so if your FF the break and the program comes on and you press play it will jump back to the break.

Cheers

Ehhh... this is a patented feature of all TiVos.... it's supposed to help you not miss the start of the programme after the ad break. You must have lightning fast reactions!

Stock was plentyful in wembley , borehamwood had about 20 when i was there and colney hatch had a few also - why is this expired

Greyowl, thanks for the link to firmware update. I believe this firmware was to add the TUTV facility only? Not sure if other improvements were added. Sorry I can't confirm that 5.1 surround sound is working correctly - don't have the necessary sound kit.
I expect you have read Nigel's article on Gone Digital regarding the surround sound capabilities.

Yes, I've looked at those pages. Interesting that the new Dbook 6.2.1 spec is as much about the 5.1 ability as the MHEG interactive channel for services like BBC iPlayer. That's how I read it anyway.
If ADB do release another firmware update for Dbook 6.2.1 compatibility, they'll be 2 methods to access iPlayer with the same box. X)
My unit came with firmware dated July 2010, upgrade made it Dec 2010. It would be nice to find a webpage where the differences between versions is detailed.
#32
Thanks for the info, I hadn't appreciated that their latest firmware is for Dec 2010 - I will email them to request the change log. Also of interest being the potential 2 methods of accessing iPlayer, HTML & MHEG. I do have a concern that this kit now has limited UK availability and whether ADB will continue to sell and support it.
#33
Since most new TVs over 32" now have FreeviewHD as standard I suspect they'll follow Humax,Icecrypt and Digitalstream by phasing out the standard FreeviewHD receiver and producing a Freeview+HD PVR instead... ...or they'll just drop it.
#34
Excellent bit of kit so far. Really nice interface and the EPG is very well implemented.

Not expired!
Further reduced to £43 in Tesco Extra Napier Road Reading this evening... picked up 1, and 2 left on shelf !

As reported, the firmware update available from I-CAN website upgrades the unit to Version GBR_074, 10th Dec 2010. Thanks to Greyowl for making me aware of this update. As I was running the previous version, I can report the following observed changes: Revised, improved & slicker iPlayer application with similar HD & Radio capabilities, Slicker navigation through the General Application, Menu option for Power Saving added, DD5.1 surround sound probably working?

The usual health warning- firmware upgrades carry some risk of bricking the kit - Careful!

Now a great piece of kit, better than my Foxsat HD!
#37
I wonder if it is possible to add the recording using the European firmware

There is a record button on the remote but it does nothing. I would love to get that working and from comments made earlier the European software allows recording. As for iplayer, i have a pc running iplayer and also a humax freesat hd pvr and both these can,t touch the I-can for quality regarding streamed iplayer
