Looking online most how-to's suggest filling with sand but that seems a tad more fiddly. Just pump up the basketball under water and you have saved yourself some money. Took me about half an hour to pump it up with water. Great grip on it too.

This is like saying 'get a carrier bag, put a couple of bricks in it, instant weight lifting for free'.

Would love to take that downstairs to the local yobs that always play basketball outside my building, lob it at one of their heads and say "Catch".
More than A little tempting...

8kg is 8litres of water. Are you sure its 8kg?

Weighed in on my home scales at 7.9 kg, feels about that. I'm going to try it on a smaller rubber ball too. No sign of any leaks overnight. I used a mini football pump with all plastic parts, apart from the needle. I reckon its just like retail versions at a fraction of the cost. Let me know how you get on if anyone tries it, especially if you're thinking of filling with sand.

Density of water is 1000kg/ cubic meter
1 litre is 1 cubic decimeter which is 0.001 cubic meters

So 8litres is 0.008 cubic meters which is 1000 kg/cubic meter * 0.008 cubic meters = 8kg :)

So yes 8litres is 8kg ... 1litre of water is 1kg give or take a little as it's not pure water :)

Radius of BB just over 12cm, volume just under 8L

Word of warning...my ball burst...ouch! Don't try and bounce it on concrete whilst it's full of water...8 litres is a lot.
On the bright side I've now got a shell into which I've put 10kg of playsand, just need to seal it and tape round all over and job done. I wouldn't buy a new ball to do it mind, but if you have an old BB...
