Thanks OP. There’s also plenty of free software out there capable of performing what Photoshop does - but they are frequently less bloated and - did I mention - free? :)

Worth the money.

He's right photoshop is the best image manipulation program out there.

The best free one is GIMP and its not that amazing unless your not particularly skilled.

Photoshop opens up whole new avenues in image manipulation and is the weapon of choice for any professionals or freelancers

so this has been voted cold becuse of what? the £150+ off or because people dont like cs4 and can download a free version of something similar, shouldn't the voting be based on the actual deal which is great

OUCH! I am a successful (and hopefully "skilled") graphic artist and I've been using GIMP for many years. I know of at least three other "skilled" professional graphic artists who use GIMP. :friends:I've yet to encounter a complaint from a client (and it's the client that counts in the end). My only complaint is that GIMP does not support Pantone colour numbering (a slight inconvenience).

GIMP is not designed to be a Photoshop clone but is a raster graphics editor program that allows users to both paintand edit pictures. Adobe Photoshop is OK for clients wanting to edit photo-realistic images, while others, more geared to artist-created illustrations, would have to purchase Adobe Fireworks.

For an even greater list of free and open source programs check out a comparison of raster graphics editor programs.
