Thanks for the link, convinces me the OEM disc of elements 6 I bought a while back is worth sticking with.

Thanks - seems that it isn't worth upgrading from 5 either!

I've got Photoshop Elements 2.0 :-D I purchased Paint Shop Pro X2 a few months back but I just don't like it as much as my trusty old edition of Photoshop Elements 2.0. Anyone know if this would be a decent upgrade or am I likely to find it a bit ott? I mainly just touch up a few photos and/or do stuff for fun.

Thanks for any advice.

spend the extra £100 and get full photoshop far, far better
#7
or even better spend nothing and get paint.net

Gimp is considered the best free alternative to Photoshop I think, and GimpShop is a version tailored to look like Photoshop to ease the transition. As a "light" Gimp user, I really would be interested to hear how it compares with this paid-for software.

'full photoshop' costs £600, which if you can't count is more than an extra £100

Not sure what you mean by 'better' - it's certainly more complex and much more expensive, but elements provides more functionality than most domestic users want or need anyway ( IMHO of course) so I can't see any reason to use full - blown Photoshop. As already pointed out GIMP / GIMPshop will do most everyday functions anyway.

Having said that this is a good price for PSE7 if you need the functionality.

edit : for that matter Picasa 3 provides a user friendly method of organising images and doing basic photo editing and is free as well.

Surely if you "can't" count the difference may not be more than £100.:-)

Gimpshop annoys me so much. If only it wasn't made of 3 windows plus more windows for each document and instead was like PSP and Photoshop. It's so user unfriendly.

Artweaver is a good free alternative to Photoshop and feels much more similar to it than Gimpshop:

It's what I use at home (I use Photoshop at work but can't afford to run it at home).

#22
Thanks. Ordered.

I couldn't justify v8 and this is a great price for v7.

Brilliant ... my PSE 4.0 is one of the small number of apps/games that had problems after moving from XP to win7 and seems like 7.0 is ok for win7 ... though Adobe refuse to confirm this and hope to bump people into an upgrade!

There's a useful round-up of features and compatability of paid and free image editors at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_raster_graphics_editors

Though they don't mention my fave, PhotoFiltre . It's got all the features I need, including dust removal from old scanned pics, but is so incredibly light - under 2mb - it works at speed on even an old PC or netbook. Unlike Photoshop, which arguably has too many options and too much learning to do for a casual user.

Mine came this morning. Working fine on W7.

Had mine a few days now and seems to work fine with win7 64bit.

Also its still available - email today warns its down to the "last 500". Excellent bargain
