Thanks for that my daughter has wanted to do this for ages. I just hope it doesn't mean the amount donated to the dolphins is reduced?? The adopt a tiger option is also £6 if you are not a dolphin person.

This question was asked about another reduced charity item at WH Smith. The answer was that when WH Smith buy them in the donation to charity is already paid so the price they sell for will not affect the donation.

It does make you wonder how much of the original £25 purchase price is just pure profit to WH Smith!

It starts from when the gift is registered, however it doesnt say when it needs to be registered by. I've ordered two and will update this thread with the info when they arrive.

This thing is a giant pile of ****.
I bought one for my significant other at Christmas and ever since all we've had is letters asking for more money and boxes of raffle tickets with pleading letters to sell them.
someone should sell Stardance for glue.

nice price though, rep added.

Sorry, but obviously donating through places like WHSmith is failing to serve the purpose of donating at all.

They will still be at least breaking even on this deal so,as has been said, the profit that they make on these is big.

Surely the whole point of donating is for the welfare of the animals/mammals in question - that's why it's better choosing a charity that donates 100% (or non profit making).

Good deal if it's just the gimmick you're after i suppose.

Sorry,rant over.

can't believe it - WHS have just cancelled Mercury Meltdown as no stock, and I have cancelled Woolies order too.

If WH Smith have already donated then paying £6 is pointless :whistling:

I can't see how they can of donated already,if they have it'll be a pittance.

But if they have then your point is correct, why bother - unless it's a gimmick and you want to have a bit of paper / cuddly toy to say you've sponsored.

Why do people buy these rubbish products? Do you honestly think you are donating any significant amount to help dolphins?, i bet for each one sold about £1 goes towards helping dophins, the rest just lines WH Smiths pockets. They are basically exploiting the suffering of dolphins in order to make a HUGE profit. If you want to help dolphins go and donate £6 directly to a charity that helps dolphins rather than going through the middle man.

Well I like this post and have ordered one for my daughter, thanks.

thanks daughter wanted this for long time , but i always thought companys made to much profit on these so hopefully if donation already made they wont be making so much profit on these , and it is nice for a young 10 yr old to have a cerificate and cuddly teddy it makes it more real to her , than me syaing 'oh love ive just donated some money for you for a dolphine

ordered atlas and encyclopedia for £5 each too, needed new ones

If it's the animals your interested in then make a donation to a non-profit making organisation (there are plenty) and you'll get a certificate. As for the teddy it's just coming out of any money going to the charity itself!!

Go out and buy her a teddy instead.

I'm not judging people but i just don't think everyone realises how little charities actually get this way and are more interested in things like cuddly toys.

Just order an adopt a tiger and a plant a tree, two more birthday presents sorted. Thanks heat added

If this deal makes people donate to the charity, where they would otherwise not bother at all.... what is the problem? Surely a small donation is better than none. I ordered the killer whale and turtle ones a while back, but they cancelled the turtle one.
#28
Sold out.
#29
So the charity has already benefited by however many W H Smith bought from them and have their cash. Therefore buying one doesn't actually strictly help the charity - whether you buy one or not, the charity has already received a lump sum fixed payment. Even if they don't sell them all and throw away the rest, it won't make any difference actually buying one.
So buy if you want the item itself, so still rated hot purely as a deal, but if it's helping the charity you want to help, if you donated the £6 direct to them they'd actually be £6 better off - if you buy this they won't be any better off.

My dolphin has been damaged in transit.
Bloody careless, if you ask me, what kind of way is that to look after precious creatures!!!!!!

Re 4 x adopt a dolphin

Please be advised that when the above items were about to be dispatched we found that these items were damaged and not suitable to send. Unfortunately these items are now out of stock therefore I have raised a credit for the charge made for these items which will be refunded to your account within 7 days. This seems a bit fishy to me.
