Fed up with virtual deer? Adopt your very own real-life reindeer, part of a herd roaming the Scottish Cairngorms. I saw them earlier this year while hiking and they're simply stunning - and as part of the adoption you get to visit them for free.

For £37 per year you can adopt one of our lovely reindeer and, in this way, help to maintain their enviable lifestyle on the Cairngorm Mountains. As an adopter, you become a one of our valued supporters and in return for your financial support, you will receive a certificate and photograph of your chosen reindeer, additional information on reindeer and souvenirs along with two newsletters over the year. You can also visit the herd for free. The adoption subscriptions are spent entirely on the upkeep of the reindeer including their food and welfare in the form of medicines and veterinary care.

Even if you're not adopting, I can recommend their blog: https://cairngormreindeer.wordpress.com/

Happy adopting & hunting (online only!)

That's a lot of venison for £37. I've not read the small print but guessing you do get to butcher it after a few years?

As far as I'm concerned if you can't bring it home with you, you haven't adopted a thing.

I don't want to sound mean but I don't get this - it seems to be a private concern not a charity. They are not endangered so why do people adopt them?

Let's be honest, you are not adopting it,it's more like a 12 month rental agreement with god knows how many other people who are so called adopting the same one.

Nice deal if you live near Aviemore as it includes "free" visits to the herd. It's fun for kids, we used to take our daughter there, she loved feeding the animals.

What a scam, pay to adopt a wild animal roaming in its natural environment. Why should you pay for something nobody owns to keep up with feeding and care, for crying out loud they roam and live off the land as they have done for thousands of years. It's nearly as good as companies allowing you to name a star which again no one owns.
