Wh smith are offering an "adopt an animal" ie: Dolphin, Monkey etc, are these good value, and does the money that you donate actually help the animals? (thinking of getting one for my neice as a xmas gift, shes Monkey mad at the mo) - any advice would be helpful.

Needs to be moved to Misc..

My advice would be to adopt something directly via the WWF or whoever as no doubt doing it your way means WHSmith will probably take a cut before any charity sees its money.

I worked for WHS for 3 yrs in high school and saw these get reduced right down to a 1/4 of their price after xmas. Makes me think if WHS can do that then the charity prob isnt getting too much of a cut or WHS is making a loss..I doubt its the latter.

I too would go direct, great gift idea though, rep for thinking outside the box for a present that makes a difference.

Why would anyone want to adopt an American wrestler?

I know it's not quite the same as adopting an animal, but there was an article in The Guardian yesterday saying that a lot of these charitable gifts (Goats etc for developing countries) don't necessarily spend the money on what you want it spending on. They did say that Good Gifts, is an exception though. I thnk they do some gifts to help endangered species so it may be worth a look if you actually want your money to go on what you want.

Why don't you do it through your local zoo? You can usually adopt an animal for a year and you can visit the animal you've adopted.
