18kg? 40lbs!!! holy cow, don't put it on a bike rack on the back of your car, it'll knacker the suspension! Love the spin on this promotion, this sort of bike comes in at around £18 per unit from China, even with logistics and promotion, stating 'no profit' is a bit far-fetched... they must be including store staffing costs and store overheads into that equation! A good bike if you only cycle once every now and again, but with that weight it'll be terrible to ride.

Not sure mate; the email only said "soon". Can you get it delivered to the store, or were you more interested in actually seeing the bike in the flesh (so to speak)?

The latter, so to speak. Although doubt it would really make that much of a difference if I did see it in the flesh or not- can't expect much at this price.

they have a great rep for cheap but indestructable bikes.
and 40lbs isnt heavy for a mountain bike imo , if you are spending 2grand you will only be getting a 30lb bike still.

Falcon haven't put bikes together in the UK for many years, along with Raleigh and all the other major manufacturers- it's not cost effective. You can't make or build a bike in the UK, cover labour, factory overheads, taxes, etc and retail at a pricepoint under £100.
£2000 will buy you a front suspension mtb weighing 23lbs or thereabouts- 30lb would be a downhill rig, built for strength, and heavy so it can roll downhill. 40lbs is almost unrideable when combined with rubbish hub bearings, but for £70 nobody will expect much. I'm tempted to get two to bench press, that'll be much more rewarding exercise than riding the things!

I wasn't trying to be controversial, only factual. One is a XC Trek weighing about 12-13kg, the other is a GT I have kitted out as a town bike weighing probably 18kg without panniers. As another contributor says, I know which one is easier to ride/ put on a bike rack.
The difference between my bikes is the effort required to ride them. Cheap bikes have a place - as long as they are safe to ride ie. the brakesw ork efficiently. My GT has decent V brakes that work well, that is the only proviso I put on the British Eagle - although I wouldn't want want to ride it up an actual mountain. :-D

my first mountain bike was more like 60lb and had calliper brakes. was perfect for 5 or 6 years going up/down the cotswolds without an issue.

Oh aye, too right, my first bike used for off-roading was a raleigh racer that cost £20 which I put straight bars and chunkier tyres on, the gear ratios were stupidly big, the wheels bent and buckled every time it was ridden, and the frame was far too big. Had a great time on it but i'm glad i've got a half-way decent mtb now, it's much more fun to ride. Having said that, i'd suggest anyone looking to buy one of these considers a s/h bike instead- you'll get better value and it's recycling. My current early 90s Cannondale cost less than £100 from a trading post type place near my bro's house, theres always loads of £300ish bikes for under a ton in Loot [better resale value too!]

I agree with above that given the choice, I would rather pick up a second hand bike for th money.
Also these bikes are self assembly which can be very dangerous if you dont know what you are doing so you might have to factor in the cost of having a Local Bike Shop setting it up for you correctly and safely. This would probably cost £20-£30 on top of this price.

£70 is cheap, but so what? Your talking about something that could potentially hurt, cripple or maim you if it fails, mechanically, so why skimp? These chepo bikes are false economy and lunacy if you ask me!
And as, Toybhoy said above, if you wanna buy chepo nasty crap, there is cheaper (and probably nastier!) available if you look.

Any ways... here's another crappy bike for 1p cheaper. Non in stock ATM which is probably just as well.
