If you get one of these make sure the first thing you do is make a bootable backup disk using the provided software. The first thing I did was install windows updates and when my book didn't boot up after the installation I was left with no way of recovering the system.

You'll need a 2gb card minimum to do this.

My mistake but I urge all you guys not to repeat it.

Can you run Mac OS/X on this like you can on the Dell mini?

You sure can - I'm writing this on my triple boot Advent 4211 - Windows XP Pro, MAC OS X and Ubuntu :-)

Not a bad deal but the title should say refurbished.

Netrix, how long did it take to get all three on there?

Forgot to say - Got mine, refurbished from Dixons for 199 [only an 80 GB hard drive] - not a mark on it, absolutely pristine condition. Only difference was no books or disks with it.

good price, dixons had this up at £219.99 last week.

3 cell battery is pathetic for a portable device but there all like it at this price so voted hot on price:thumbsup:

or add something for 1.99 and user MARCH10 code for £10 off

Posted before I believe at a slightly higher price, got very hot back then. Not sure why this is cold, maybe as refurbished isn't in the title?
#10
deserves to be hotter. Ordered today myself and bought a £6.49 4GB memory key which qualified me for the £10 discount.

Looks like I'll need the usb key to make the backup disk so smiles all round !!

anybody know anything about the Advent G10 also advertised, can't find any info on it, though it looks identical to the smaller 4212 which is not as good as this machine/deal.

Not too long - I followed a guide from here: http://forums.msiwind.net/ unfortunately I cannot find the exact guide at present.

Basically re install XP onto an NTFS partition (making the whole disk 1 active partition)
Use the Ubuntu disk editor to set and format the remaining partitions (select the option to run Ubuntu but make no changes to the system) then use Gparted.

Next install OS X and finally install Ubuntu - this way the Grub boot manager will be the one that runs the choice of OS on boot up.

Probably took an hour and a half from start to finish - that included swapping out the hard drive.

If I find the guide I'll post a link in this thread.

Received today - looks like battery is knackered - wont charge (Orange blinking light when PC is booted up, no light at all when PC is off but connected to mains).

Really peeved as it looks a nice wee unit. Missus will not be happy.

Same here! I was delighted with it otherwise so I'm gutted.

courier collected today to return. I have chosen to replace rather than refund but now I'm having second thoughts ...

I've gone for a replacement too. I'm delighted with the unit but obviously need one that works.

This reconditioned business is far from straightforward.

Did you get yours yet ?

Didn't get mine yet. Might just see about a refund.

Mine has arrived and is fully functinal - actually a nice bit of kit. Not as nice as an NC10 obviously, but less than 2/3 the price....
